Yes, if it is a double cab and the truck is regeared you need a 4” diameter shaft bit even then you will hit the ds rpm limit around 70mph

I can only speak to my experience with the 4” size but i had to completely remove my carrier bearing cross member because toward full bump the ds hit it

    Agreed...definitely the way to go.
    The double cardan cancels itself...
There is nothing to cancel the rear u-joint and is why it's working angle must be zero; pinion angle must be adjusted.

When doing my U joints I cracked the cast slip yoke pressing the U joint back in. I ordered a tom woods shaft for my stock suspension truck & it gave me a severe vibration between 65-75mph. I had to send it back for a refund.

was it a double cardon ? did you properly set up your pinion angle ?

See...I'd prefer a 2-piece with a double cardan at the center joint. Run 1-2 degree working angles at the transmission and pinion; avoid the length problem.

I did thanks! I put the stock back on. With 4.88 gears the Woods was turning over too fast which we knew could happen but we took a shot anyway. I’ll get my stock one dialed in here soon.

It can definitely be done you just have to find someone local to you will to build a custom set up like that. Quite a few people have done it but it only solves the length vs. ds rpm issue because with the double cardon joint in the mix you would still have to tilt your pinion up along the line of the rear shaft.

Looks interesting….I’ll have to read more when I have time but wonder if it works with Dobinson springs? Has anyone installed one yet?

It doesn't necessarily have to be straight for a 2-piece double cardan; which isn't ideal anyway. You got to have a little angle to spin the needle bearings.
The front and rear angles just need to match and they will cancel each other.
That's why I said 1-2 degrees on those... It would not require doing much, if anything with the carrier bearing position. To get zero working angle at the front u-joint would require a carrier bearing lift and make the working angles at the double cardan greater.

I have seen them at a couple places online...
My local guy could do it, no problem...been doing it 35 years.

    Yes
the minute you make it a two piece and add that double cardan joint that is not true, the pinion angle required relates to that shaft going from the carrier bearing to the rear axle so if you have a double cardan on that section then the pinion must be lined up the shaft

If the double cardan is self-cancelling, what cancels the first working angle?
Maybe, I'm wrong... Do you have any technical reference backing that up? I can trust what you're saying; I just need confirmation.

BTW- here's a link to a place that does a 2 piece double cardan

Why did you install an aftermarket drive shaft?
