I’m having this exact same issue. Can’t for the life of me figure out why the belt keeps hopping off when I reinstall new belt and start it. It was doing great for the first year and a half and then one time on a long trip with lots of flooring it the lower smaller pulley bolt bent and I replaced it with the stronger 12.9 grade from McFadden dale as mentioned below and replaced pulley bearings that need them but it still won’t stay on. All pulleys are in perfect alignment from what I can see with my eyes but maybe I’m just too much of a garage mechanic to figure out what I’m doing wrong. Haven’t had my procharger connected to the belt for over 6 months of trying different stuff now and it’s honestly really depressing knowing that I’m probably going to spend an arm and a leg to get the shop to fix it only for it to start jumping off after their 30 day warranty on work knowing my luck.

Like I said before you really need the laser alignment tool to check the alignment. Also check the auto-tensioner for slop. I have worn out the bearings in all the idlers/tensioner already and replaced them so I would expect others to have experienced this as well at this point.

If you huck a belt and throw it back on just for it to come right off again it's time for a new belt.

Are you seeing any other wear markings on the lower idler pulley? Post some pics of where your belt is sitting, etc and we can try to help.

I’m using a new belt so it’s not the belt. Replaced pulleys so it’s definitely not those either. My thing is I’ve used a ratchet strap to pull the smaller lower pulley towards the passenger side wheel and the belt actually stayed on. But if it is the smaller pulley threaded rod that’s the issue that keeps popping the belt off isn’t that going to be an issue eventually? Doesn’t that make this a flawed system no matter what because the belt creates too much tension on the lower smaller pulley for it to operate properly?

also I can’t justify spending that kind of money on the gates tool. I think I’ll have to take it to a shop to see what they think.

The lower pulley and crank pulley are absolutely parallel to each other. I'm running my tensioner in the stock setting which is the middle of the 3 holes. I don't think the auto tensioner is strong enough to bend the pulley out of alignment even in the tightest setting. Also I was looking at my Mcmaster history, to correct my previous statement about the threaded rod I'm using a b7 threaded rod. https://www.mcmaster.com/95245A105/

Being that there is some wiggle room in the head unit plate mountings you might need to shim the lower plate mounting bolt, or the Procharger itself to get things lined up better. You can also use straight edge across the face of the pulleys to check for alignment issues. I'd also measure the from the top and bottom of the plate to make sure it's parallel to the crank pulley.

Lol, I discovered this before Procharger did..

I posted the link to the rod you want above. The b7 rod is far more rigid.

Yea I think the original one I linked was a coarse thread. Initially I had all kinds of issues with belt retention. First it was the wrong pulleys in my early kit, pulley offsets were wrong, then the bendy threaded rods. I will be looking for a way to reinforce that rod while I've got a motor on the stand. It's kinda out in the middle of nothing but I'm sure I can figure out a bracket.

@PhoS , have you also looked into hardened rod/all-thread?

These higher grade rods are hardened.

For a stock truck fittted with the ProCharger as this 3rd Gen was, it's much higher than what you'd see on a 2G which is typically around 300g/sec +/-. This is mostly due to the difference in operating RPM. The 2G's much lower redline is the achilles heel here.

Not to mention the MAF signal is clean as a whistle unlike the 2G which very much needs an airflow straightener for a consistent and reliable signal (see my original post: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tacoma-procharger.639892/page-12#post-24268722)

Yea that would be the idea. I'm pretty confident the issue is mostly resolved with the high grade hardware but who knows what will happen if you start adding more stress. (smaller pullies, more hp)

Have you had any success defeating the factory rpm limit on 2nd gen with hptuners?

What peak boost numbers you seeing on the 3rd gen?
