Hey all, hope everyone is doing well.

As I may have mentioned in earlier posts. I’m looking to get a zero point calibration done on my third gen Tacoma. This one would involve steering sensor, correct? Well yaw-rate sensor but dealer considered it steering which I thought made sense but I could be wrong.

Anyway, in addition to the zero point calibration, I wanted to get T-SB-0058-18 done on my ‘18 Tacoma. Surges at about 45 mph under moderate acceleration. Also seems to not want to shift going 70-80 on the highway, instead wants to stay at 3k rpm instead of shifting. It will shift if I bump the shifter in manual mode though.

So I was looking to get both of these services performed, and they wanted $185 for each. It seemed a little high judging what I heard from some people on here but knowing it’s a dealer, I can’t say I’m all that surprised. Anyway, they would want roughly $370 for both.

So my question is, would it be cheaper to get techstream and an adapter to do it myself, or should I take it to the dealer and have them do it?

It would be cool doing it via techstream, but I haven’t seem to have found any concrete info on how much a license costs, if I need a specific obd adapter, or a specific version that works on our trucks, or is able to perform these more recent updates.

I figured the dealer just uses techstream to perform a yaw rate zero point calibration and the tsb, but may be wrong. Would the tsb show up on tech steam itself or is that only something the dealer can get?

Sorry for all the questions, but just trying to get an idea. It would be nice to do it myself to save some money but if I can’t perform these things with it myself with techstream, I’d just like to know and then cut my losses and take it to the dealer. I just don’t know how hard it is to do myself either. I’m pretty mechanically inclined, but have no idea how this software works, or how easy it is to perform these kinds of services on.

Any help is appreciated as always. Thanks.

All I can help you with is the location of the steering angle sensor; it is in the clock spring just below the steering wheel.

You don't say why you wish to do what you wish. It always helps.

    You have a few options..
Tactrix cable is $170+taxes/shipping. It is not advisable to use cheap adapters when updating ecu.
You may look for old versions of Techstream since you drive 2018.

There is service manual floating somewhere on TW with all procedures.

You may look into local tunnig communities to help with tsb for a small fee.

Thanks a bunch for the info. Really appreciate it. Would you know how much techstream would run? Like I’ve heard almost up to 1000 then I’ve heard a couple hundred, or a cracked version somewhere, I don’t really know.

    but appreciate the help

This should help with your questions https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/techstream-tips-and-tricks.597998/
BTW, that upshift issue won't be resolved with TSB. The issue continues through all years and not completely eliminated by tunes.
Use S mode to force upshift.

Let me know when you find a source for techstream too. There is a website but you must pay to join to get techstream but some of them might not be legit. I had the old version but my computer shut on me.

Gotcha, thanks. I guess higher speeds might have to do with it too. At least it would fix that annoying surging at 45 mph. I’ll look into it some more.

Will do, if I do. Do you remember what version you had or how you got it?

It almost seems as if people are having lucky getting techstream licenses from 3rd parties, but I just wonder how you know what source is legit and what isn’t. Does anyone who has techstream remember how much they paid. Just trying to get an idea what most people are paying. Straight from Toyota or the official way, it might’ve been several hundred or almost $1000, but that may have included other accessories too, I don’t know.
