For those that didn't follow, here's the link and story from part 1.

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/1st-gen-tacomas/143900-my-taco-hot-man.html

I went to the holding yard today and shot these, much better destruction is visible in the daylight.

It might be me, but I think the fire started higher in the engine compartment. The dust boots on the front left drive are still intact enev though the tire is melted. The steering dust boot has a small melt to it and one of the lower radiator hoses is still intact.

Insurance and Toyota investigators will inspect it in the next few days together and I'll let you know here what they find.

Notice there is no air intake box on the left and the breaker box is gone on the right. The second photo in this series shows over the right tire just aft of the suspension A arm. The battery has some of the case melted into the lead cells. Even the oil fill cap is gone. All plastic and rubber is missing from the upper compartment.

Wow! Sorry this happened to you. I hope that through both, you can get a great replacement. You said the clutch went to the floor on its own? Maybe the hydraulic line burst and ignited on the exhaust?

Sucks but glad YOU are OK!!

Every fluid under the hood can burn if it hits the exhaust manifold, including clutch fluid. That's probably what happened.
