We did try that. Didn't initially find anything loose. Will try again

 

Trying jacking under the LCA to help load it up. May need a pry bar under the tire to help

I'd have to kick my own ass then... I only did it because the factory cover / housing doesn't have a drain plug and I hate the idea of silicone as a primary seal for the diff cover. The old cover was a PITA to get off, I wouldn't be at all surprised if I didn't warp it trying to get it loose. New cover should never have to come off, I have fill and drain ports built in with a sight glass for oil level (and of course all the fancy cooling crap that apparently does all sorts of glorious things for the diff).

 

I'd start looking at dust covers / heat shields. That sounds like a piece of metal being caught by something, like a baseball card in a bicycle spoke. Check the dust covers on your brake rotors, one might be close to the rotor and catching it a bit.

 

Sounds like it could be sway bar related, I'd also check your diff and rack mounts. Check ujoints and carrier bearing? Get any noticeable bumps in the steering wheel going over bumps or potholes?

 

No noticeable bumps. I hit the trans skid back. In December and the sound only came back after the suspension settled after doing the cvs.

 

Are your lower control arm bolts tight? If you have a Go-Pro, it'd be worth while to have it video the LCA bolts when the noise is happening. The rubber in the control arm bushings could be shot or the bolts themselves loose and allowing some play.

 

How's the cv angles? Could be bushing related, they'll pop when bad at times

 

Pretty good if I remember correctly. I did have the ECGS bushing put in around 45k

 

This ^^^. I've never had it happen but most people say that when they get an alignment the LCA bolts were not retightened enough and get sounds similar to that.

 

I think this is a different gen but gets into the torque on these puppies. I only have an HF torque wrench but it does the trick for what I need to torque spec on. I don't know if I have enough grunt (it's only an 18 inch handle I think) to get LCA bolts with that thing.

Dinner brought itself to the house today. I heard a bang that sounded like snow falling off the roof and hitting the porch, but that couldn't be, snow's been gone from the roof for a few days now. I looked outside and saw this one lying on the driveway. The poor thing must have flown into the house or a window and snapped its own neck. Bonus: No shot pellets to pick out.

I have had an alignment come back with loose LCA bolts, I could only replicate the clunk when going from forward, stop then reversing into a spot. Drove me nuts until I had my buddy watching and he saw the whole LCA shifting.

 

May be a longshot but I'll try...
Looking for 1 2nd gen. TRD OR wheel to use as a spare.
