Locking diff wire trick

Hello Does anyone know if there a hack on the 3rd gen tacos for the diff lock like previous years?

 

I'm not sure what you are asking, but I can tell you the diff lock mechanism on the 3rd gen is different than than on the 2nd gen. There is a lot of discussion on the topic mostly surrounding an any-time diff lock mod. Use your favorite internet search engine.

 

There is not a "grey wire" trick to get the locker engaged like the older models. (Did it on my 2004).
There is a thread, and I believe the guy is now selling, about a conversion harness to accomplish this but it is much more involved than snipping a wire and grounding it.
Look for the search magnifier at the top of this screen. I think it is under "two low mod".

No interest myself in a 2wd Lo mod, but like the OP, I would love a 4HI locked rear.

Yes, You can search, but you won’t find anything conclusive. Folks have played with ways to make it ‘work’, but I’ve yet to see a definitive solution.

However, the more we ask, the more likely the market will answer.

Im waiting cash in hand for a plug-and-play solution.

 

No. It can not be done. There are a few very knowledgeable TW members that have spent way to many hours of their own time trying to figure it out and they can’t find a workaround.

It can be done. I'm still trying to get around to doing mine. But it absolutely can be done and it's all laid out how in the big thread.

 

im sure it can be, it took people a long while to figure out the other years. It can’t be all that difficult just nobody has come up with a solution to sell to the mass. The further these electronics get into the deep the more reverse engineering needs to take place to make mods.

 

My point was the OP asking if the grey wire mod can be done on the 3rd Gen, which it cannot.

I have followed that thread front beginning and I would love to have a proven safe working p&p 2wd/4hi rear locker mod for my 2017, without a doubt. Though that is not possible, yet.

 

If someone nearby provides with a Guinea pig I’m sure I can build a circuit similar here, I’d just need impedance values of the locker coil at various voltage levels. You can go this route or build yourself PWM module.
