How do you transport your pet's?

I have been lurking around the forums and I haven't been able to find anything on this. I have a 55lb Goldendoodle who is still a puppy. I don't want her loose in the bed yet because of fear she may jump out and I don't want her trashing my new interior yet. Right now I'm looking at some of Kurgo's products and I wanted to find out if anyone has had any luck with them.

How does everyone transport their pet's?? Please post pictures of your setup.

 

I've got a set of neoprene waterproof seat covers for the rear seats and he stays there (I've got an 80 lb Lab so he's usually wet and/or muddy when I transport him). I pulled the covers off a few months ago to wash them and the seats underneath still look brand new. Someone made a cover so he could fold the rear seats down and they run around on top of that. He basically put carpet on the seat backs so they weren't on plastic.

 

my furry kids go back n forth between the back seats depending on weather or load. when inside, the seats are covered by a heavy blanket and my lively layla has a lead ive hooked to a hook behind the seat to keep her from climbin up front. this keeps the interior mostly clean on the cheap. if i put em in the bed, its lined with a OEM mat and ive hooked a leash on a cleat centered under the rear window to keep layla in check when needed. it restricts her to a point where she cant jump or fall yet still can stand on the wheel wells. soon, i hope to get a shell so my troubles will be over. pics to follow

 

My pup for long trips rides in the bed with my topper. Wheeling he is up front or in the back he jumps in and out of the window as he deems necessary. He likes to run on his own some times and he comes back to the truck when he wants.

 

I seldom need the backseat of my DC for people so I've got a pet hammock in there for my 53lb Boxer. It's a nylon unit that hangs between the front and back headrests. It keeps the hair and mud off the seats and has velcro cutouts for the seatbelt buckles so she can be belted in with her harness to keep her in the back in the event of a crash and to keep her out of the front to prevent a crash.

I like the hammock in there the rest of the time, makes it easy to throw tools or junk back there and not have to worry about the seat. Also, the one I have has a zipper in the middle of the front, so you can open the zipper and undo a front headrest buckle and then drop it down and someone can sit there. Also, it's just 4 quick release buckles to undo if we need to go out for dinner with another couple or something.

(Just more like a general statement to anyone else out there...) but please don't be "that guy" who's dog rides in the back of an open truck bed w/o a tiedown or crate or something to keep her securely in the bed at speed. Few things are sadder or often more gnarly to see on the highway than a once beautiful dead dog.

I had a pretty big one, as I put two Dalmatians in it. It collapses down nice, keeps the dirt inside, and kept the dog nails off that plastic.

They didn't being confined, (no kids, so my dogs are spoiled), and I didn't like the FJC, so they ride in the back of my new Tacoma now, sheltered from the weather by my shell, and with a BedRug to lay down on. Somehow, I want to be reincarnated as my own dog!

Thank you, they love the new bed cap. It is so much nicer to travel with them in there instead of in the cab. Layla likes to get in the front seat and tries to sit on my lap while I'm driving, not good. Plus all the dog hair/dirt stays in the bed.

Thick blanket on the back seat, harness that ties into the seatbelt and two extra large super cheap hoodie sweaters go over the front seats. We just have one small dog now (pug) and he likes to scratch the back of the front passenger seat because he wants up front. The sweaters protect the seat, and also make it look like people are sitting in the front when it's actually empty. (from a distance anyway haha)

My puppy hates riding in the bed of the truck. But from past experiences, you put a dog in the back with them that loves riding and they will learn from them.

 

agreed. odus loved the old silverado and was quite happy to show layla the ropes when we got the taco last october. i did keep her tied up for the 1st week while she figured it out and i still keep it handy if we park next to other dogs while i run to the store. they do love their car rides!

1st off, i love my dogs as if they were children and thats a fact. i hear what you guys are sayin about lose dogs in the bed and i dont discount that. my dogs will not jump out and theyve proven that time and time again so im safe there. a leash or a cage wouldnt be that much help in my opinion as they would get tossed about the bed/road/etc just the same in a accident. and my dogs would not put up with a harness so thats out. i just drive like im in a big ol truck with a high center of gravity and 2 loved ones in back. in other words, sanely. a shell wont cure it all but will help and thats likely my 1st big upgrade. in the end, we care for our pups with all our heart so anything we do to protect them is ok by me.

 

I fold the rear seats down and we have a blanket that we put over the back plastic on the seats. This works reasonably well. We have put her in her kennel in the back before as well, but she likes to be up front with the good tunes and forward views.

 

My dog goes in the back seat. Gets hairy but he is soo worth it!

yep. odus is all about the forward view and layla digs puttin her head on candycorns shoulder when shes not checkin the hall passes of everyone she drives past. she thinks shes in control of the road and all that sits beside it.
