This is my second Tacoma and I love it, but recently it got hit by lightning and it knocked out the ECM, among other things. Now the dealer is telling me that I need a new instrument cluster and that it will be a month before they can get it. Not sure if he's describing it correctly-does he mean the control module and the cluster? Are they one and the same? If so, I'd like to make sure that it really is that difficult to get because they first told me pretty much the same thing about the ECM and I called Toyota customer service and they told me that it actually was in the dealer's parts department. I know that it could really be true that it's that hard to get, but I'm not one to just accept without verifying. What do I need to ask as far as the part that's needed? Thanks for any suggestions!

welcome, no one but your dealer and your insurance company will really know. I would go in there and simply as them for a better explanation. Also realize, that if it is the gauge cluster being replaced, it will take time, as the new one must be reprogrammed to the same documented miles as the old,,, and I think there is some read tape that comes along with that.

thanks for that and I do realize it has to be reprogramed. It's been 2 weeks already and they say they probably still won't get it for another month and then it does have to go out for programming. I just wondered if there's a way to know if the lead time for them to even receive it is unusual. Maybe not, just don't like to be in the dark. I might not have a choice! thanks, again.

ask the dealer to show the exact parts, there is no reason whey they shouldn't, then do an online parts search.
While it has gotten much better,,, keep in mind, we are still in time of shortages.

    GL!
I am assuming (and might not be correct) with a job of an expense like this, your insurance is involved. If so, you can reach out to them if the dealer won't give you answer. Your insurance company can and will get you answers.

If it is your Combo Meter that needs to be replaced, your dealer will also likely need to order it with your current mileage on your Odometer. Otherwise, you can’t certify the mileage when you sell it.

That’s what my dealer did when I had the Combo meter TSB done. Post #350 has a picture of my TSB.

I imagine Combo meters are manufactured with the Odometer set to all Zeros, but can legally be altered to reflect a customer’s actual mileage of the vehicle when a replacement is needed.

Yeah...the dealership should be able to pull the information out of the gauge control module and put all the same info back into the new one...if for some reason it cant be done, an odometer disclosure statement must be done with a sticker in the door jam.

My concern was they say it will take another month to even get one-it will definitely have to be programmed to my original mileage info. My homeowner's is paying after deductible, but mostly I just want my truck back! Thanks everyone!

Hood Struts, My version Fogs always ON, Map & Overhead Light Mod,
Sticker on the new Combination Meter (it has been replaced) and an entry of the original miles on the vehicle record (all), there is no programming of original miles.
    But I might be wrong.:burp:
