3rd Gen Tacoma Super White Peeling Paint

What dealer is this that’s fixing it

 

I have a white 2017 and it is also peeling by the rear windows and the inner rim of the front fenders. I also noticed that there are several small rust spots on the roof.

I am thinking of getting it wrapped (especially now that it will be parked outside), but I suppose I should at a minimum have the rust spots taken care of. I'll try my luck at the local dealer and see what they say.

 

Mine is doing it also. Looks the same. Around back door window and spreading. Have a 2018 Tacoma super white made in Mexico

Ah that sucks! Made in Mexico? Make sure to submit this to Toyota. Hopefully it gets recognized as an issue for Tacoma’s soon.

 

Yes Baja Mexico plant. I’m so bummed, spoke to the dealership today and the service guy admitted it’s a big problem but Tacoma hasn’t made the “list” yet but it’s coming real soon. He said keep checking the mail, I guess that’s good news or him brushing me off idk. How do I submit to Toyota?

 

Call Toyota at (800) 331-4331 and file a complaint.

So what do they say or do with this file complaint?

Seems like they aren't caring cause they already got y'all money. All the complaints gets fw to the trash labeled "to be deleted"

 

My 2nd Gen Super White did the same , same spot , how much did it cost to fix.

 

I haven't done mines. But it varies by shop and quality and could be 300-500 per door as a thumb estimate

 

What other issues do the 3 gens have? I just started researching for my first Tacoma.

 

I have a 2020 that’s just out of warranty that I noticed today has peeling paint on the fenders on both sides by the A pillar. It’s minor so far but with 13,000 miles on it, I feel like it should be covered. I called corporate and they didn’t care, but told me to get a quote for repair and try to submit under their “Goodwill” policy. I think a I’d have better luck with The BBB.

 

Yea for everyone that keeps asking what year this got solved... it never really got solved. It just takes 3-4 years to be obvious, maybe a couple of years to spot it with a close eye early.

 

I recommend waiting before going the goodwill route. You’re likely soon going to have peeling paint in other areas, and Toyota won’t do goodwill twice. They didn’t for me, at least. They also didn’t cover all costs under goodwill.

I had paint peeling like your pics (both sides), under the hood (both sides), passenger doors (both sides), and the fuel door. I suppose you do run the risk of them doing nothing the longer you wait. This issue seems too big for Toyota not to do something before long, but it’s already been way too long.

 

That’s what I was thinking too. What if it gets worse, but I’m already out off warranty and they probably won’t cover anything after too long. Pretty much garbage though. Thanks for your thoughts though.

 

Seems to be dependent on what the dealership’s willing to do. Mine helped 5 years in, but claimed my history with them played a major role. Others in the same position weren’t given anything. It’s such a crapshoot.

Peeling paint in 3-5 years is ridiculous. It’s a real disgrace for Toyota to not have included the Tacoma in their extended paint coverage.

 

What model years of 3rd gen have this issue?
