Seems like a lot have gone to taste soy based wire looms. Just had to replace a wiring harness on a 2019 Ford Fusion that had rabbit damage. Dealer said they wrapped the new one in a pepper impregnated wrap to help reduce this some.

the class action lawsuit filed against Toyota in 2018 was indeed won by Toyota however! the case was appealed to a higher court which is now as of 23 still in litigation. the judge in the higher court ruled soy-based coated wires are still as of now being used to seal the wiring Does attract rodents ! If there are no rodents on your property you're not going to have a problem If there are more than likely you will have a big problem Toyota was never sued because they were using petroleum-based insulation but only because they started using the soy insulation They opted to use soy to lower environmental issues .The problem is definitely out of control The reason the insurance companies are being slammed by rodent chewed claims is because Toyota is not only claiming rodent chews on cars that actually have rodent chews but claiming that they are rodent chewed in order for the prices to skyrocket for the parts and labor through the insurance claims rather than covering The repairs through warranties!!!They are doing this for a fact to gain enough money in case they lose this lawsuit! Or I should say appeal!!!Most insurance companies are considering at this point not to cover rodent chews!!!and Toyota is aware of this They are getting what they can while they can! Unfair practice for sure!!! I have my son's 2020 CHR nightshade at the dealership at this time they say there is rodent damage without evidence of any rodent ever being in the vehicle or on the vehicle!! I have been on my property for 22 years and never seen a single rodent of any kind!!!I have had quite a few cars in storage under my carport and not a single one of them ever had a chewed wire issueAs I said there is no rodent sign in the vehicle the reason that they are trying to Say it is rodent chewed damage is because they know I had it in storage under the carport under a car tarp For 2 months because my son is deployed at the moment! They think they are going to get away with this Well I'll tell you they are not going to get away with this!!! I had to replace the battery in his car because it continued to not charge After I replaced the battery the car cranked but did not start! and that is the reason I took it in in the first place they cannot get the computer to talk to their diagnostics machine and instead of figuring out why! They are saying that the wires are chewed instead!!! Only because they know I stored it! They said there could only be three reasons why the machine wasn't talking to the computer rodent damage was one of them installation of the battery being put in wrong was one of them! The last was because it was jumpered by road assistance ! And that he caused a spark !!They are not trying to figure out why the computer isn't talking to the diagnosis machine but have only blamed The problem on me and the three things I was involved in instead of even checking the OBD2 connector or the fuses or The sensors in the vehicle It's a scam 100%!! 699 to diagnose it by hand up front! They won't get away with it!

On high altitude trails in Colorado, I saw ATV's and 4WD vehicles parked (hikers/hunters/etc) wrapped around the base with that orange construction netting. I finally saw someone and asked why. They said the marmots would chew on anything rubber and disable a vehicle in minutes!:goingcrazy:

I also had my Ford in for rodent damage twice while I lived there. Crazy!

Rodents have been gnawing the insulation off wires since the inception of insulated wire.

He speculating that not only is Toyota still using soy wiring (bc its better for environment), but also blaming rodent damage for a host of other issues…possibly to build up a financial buffer to cover damages for an inevitable pending court loss.

Rather than do their due diligence investigating potential other sources of customer ECU damage, Toyota will just blame it all on rodents, charge an arm and a leg for the diagnosis and repair parts, and sit on the profits.

A new wiring harness and repair is thousands, but Toyota is somewhat protected by a precedent legal judgement in 2018.

So basically everyday dealership repair shop fraud.
