spray on bed liner for entire brushguard......not line-x though

any of ya'll had any experience using any of the spray on bed liners that come in an aerosol type can that you can get from pep boys/walmart/autozone,etc?

im wondering if the stuff is any good. i've used the herculiner plenty......but its real grippy, and on my brush guard, i want something that has a bit of texture, but kinda smooth as well. i had thought about using undercoating, but decided against it.

i gotta sand down my brush guard and spray it, cause it was very cheaply powdercoated, and it wasnt prepped for shit......rust in spots breaking thru it.

 

I used RustOleum Truck bed coating on my rear bumper and sliders and it looks awesome and the grip is nice I can step on my sliders when wet and not slide off.

cool....i may give it a go. i "tried" using the duplicolor bed coating on my skids....but the damn can was fubarred.....shot bed coating all over my kitchen and living room at our old condo...so i didnt mess with it again.

is the texture smooth at all?

 

I painted my stock bumper with duplicolor spray on bed coating and it turned out great!

 

I would say it's like 220 grit sand paper maybe a little rougher

alright....cool. im probably gonna give it a go as long as when i drag some microfiber cloth across it it dont snag it much.

 

Yeah you should be fine i have a microfiber sponge for washing the truck and i just washed my bumper & sliders with it and was surprised on how well it went along the surface no snagging or ripping it just scrubbed off the dirt & mud.

 

awesome...thats what i was looking for. have you tested out how durable it is yet? does it chip easily?

 

It's to early to tell I did rub it off in some spots on some rocks and a dirt hill that i slid down but that's to be expected I did 4 heavy coats it took 5 cans to spray my bumper and sliders.

 

what was your prep like? I have beat the living hell out of my bumper and it hasnt chiped, peeled, or scratched

 

well....i'll give the rustoluem stuff a go unless i find another coating that i think will be better. i was gonna get it line-x'd...but thats way too expensive for just the brush guard.

 

i've got to get something better that that bullshit cheap powdercoating job that it has now. i got rust spots coming up thru 5 or 6 spots on it. i kinda wanna avoid regular paint, and it the bedliner coating dont work...may end up using some undercoating.

 

You seem to have more experience than me but ill just through this out there. I dont mean to sound like a dick. To me it seems that spray on bed liner likes to stick to a course metal surface with no primer a little better

 

I did my factory skids with Duplicolor and they haven't chipped yet. It's almost been a year.
