My 2006 with 247k in mileage began dripping transmission fluid two days ago. What could be the reason and what are reasonable fix costs that I should be looking at?IMG_8202.jpg

Are you sure that's transmission fluid and not coolant?

I would follow the trail up the tranny housing to determine where it is coming from.

Stick your fingers in the inspection port.
See if the fluid is inside.
If so, it’s probably the input shaft seal for the transmission.
That is, if it’s actually trans fluid.

I see fluid leak trails coming the top of the bell housing.
    So check everywhere.

Well, my coolant reserve tank is almost empty. But I can’t find the source of the leak yet. And the leak happened on two very hot days. My engine temp gauge remained in normal range those two days.

Best to be sure and touch the fluid when vehicle is cold. In the pic, the color and consistency appears to be coolant. Air pushes the coolant rearward, so it can be starting at the front of the engine, or dripping down from the hoses at the firewall, to the heater core.

There is a coolant pipe under the intake.
It goes to the back of the block. Stick your hand back there and feel for coolant.

If it’s leaking from the hole in the housing then it could be either oil or trans fluid. If it’s oil, then it’s most likely the rear main seal leaking. Otherwise it could be transmission fluid leaking from the input shaft.

It seems the leak is coming from higher up. Above the transmission housing. It’s dripping down this braided hose. IMG_8265.jpg

The coolant pipe under the intake goes into a “T”.
The o-ring can leak, and when it does it usually drips down the back of the block.
I’m not saying that IS where the leak is at, I’m just showing you where to look.

Thanks TnShooter. I’m just wondering how long of a job this will be if I decide to tackle it myself and taking this engine apart to find the leak? Do you have the part number to the coolant pipe and “O” ring if that’s where the leak is?

    It’s not an “easy” job.
But it’s doable in the garage.
If the coolant pipe is ok, it will be a bit easier.

See the link below for details.
