This is the reason when I bought my truck and they started talking about how you get free oil change first service bla bla bla. I said no offence but I'll never be in here for regular service work. Regular maintinence on these trucks is a pretty easy diy job at home. I've seen what they charged my brother for diff fluid and t case changes. I'm good, and as a plus you avoid all their bullshit scam work they try to sell you. But thats just one guys opinion.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Say what you will I can not fault a service writer or dealer trying to make money.

It is every dealer out there.

Some people have never changed oil or a wiper blade.

I have never seen a service be made mandated yet.

    I drive a Miata.

I can. There's upselling and then there's misleading the uninformed. College roommate's dad was a used car salesman. His motto was "never tell an idiot that they're an idiot; help them become a bigger one instead."

I don't know if I could do that. I don't think I could get rich by telling people that their car will die if they don't have their injectors cleaned today. There's a fine line between the upsell and mislead, and in many ways it's splitting hairs. I think too many people cross that line, because it's easier and faster for me to say "you need this" than it is to explain what I'm selling and why it may be beneficial.

I don't respect the people who take the easy path to make a sale. I never have.

Honestly that’s why I prefer salary over commission- I’m not a salesman and I don’t want to feel like I need to “steal” from your table to put food on mine. I tell you my findings, tell you my recommendations and possible things to look for that can go wrong if you don’t but I’ll do whatever you like. Clear conscience daily

When I have the AC on I drive the last 3 minutes with only the fan blowing. Seems to dry out the AC coils. I also change the cabin air filter regularly. No weird smells in 8 years.

This ventilates the flow from your wallet directly to the service department. For your dealer, it leaves a pleasant odor of money.

I've seen a few techs sell it, they are the type to team up with the advisor to upsell everything everytime.

Then they don't do it correctly.

It's hog wash unless there's actually a problem.

    I hate my industry sometimes.

Toyota has nothing to do with this. Dealerships are privately owned and make the choice to upsell with services like this.

Not in this regard. Toyota has nothing to do with selling services like this.

I have a few buddies that are dealer techs, and they can't stand it either,, but at this point in their life are fully vested in tools, training, certs, and other benefits. It's a shame really.

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
    You are definitely being ventilated.
