So, I’ve got warped rotors again for the third time in 5 years. I’m curious if anyone has done an upgrade to a higher performance rotor, and if anyone has any specific recommendations.

Do a forum search for stop tech rotors. It’s definitely a thing.

Warped rotors were a well known issue on early gen1 tundras. I went with EBC slotted, and drilled ones on my 2001 tundra. Never had another issue. Brake pads lasted forever instead of wearing out every 20k miles.

So what are you doing that you get a slab of iron hot enough to distort?

My guess is you're not. What you're feeling is pad material transfer creating a pedal pulse.

When you renew, do you follow a brake bedding procedure?

If not, I suggest if your current rotors are in spec measurment wise, clean them up properly. If you need new pads, install. If you don't need new pads, reinstall the old ones. Now do a bedding procedure and see what happens in a few months.

I put brembo discs on my volvo and love them. Heaviest rotors I've ever had to install.

Rockauto has them for 3rd gen for $71 each.

something else is wrong, if you are going through rotors every 18 months.

As far as these tacoma's I'd have to agree. I've got 24k on my 2020 and the rotors, and pads still appear as new.

If you really want to cool them down - remove or drill the backing plates. Did a bunch of passenger busses that had mostly caliber issues due to ceramic pistons. Only problem was it fixed them and I lost extra brake work. Got the thought from my Dodge Dakota that came factory without them and the brake life was spectacular.

If you plan to do it yourself - always open the bleed valve on the caliber - so that you do not push the dirty overheated fluid back through the system. If the bleed valve is seized in the caliber - you can crack the brake hose connection at the caliber and achieve the same thing.

I had warped rotors too. Put PowerStop on a year ago and very happy so far.
