Replace non-intermittent wiper switch with intermittent variant

The relay in my 1st gen base model's wiper switch/stalk appears to have gone out and I am looking for a replacement. Since it's the base model, it only has low and high speed modes. Does anybody know if the switch variant that also includes intermittent mode will work in my vehicle?

If it's anything like a 2nd Gen, it's just as simple as opening up the steering column, and the stalk should be plug and play. This is what I did in my 2nd Gen...

 

There is a thread on here (older) that talks about this. What I remember is yes, but only on the later models. Maybe like 98 & up? I know they said it won't work on my 95.

i'm a little late with this response but I got one from ebay for less than $20 out of a camry...works fine in my 2004 tacoma. plug and pay

 

I will also confirm that a same-era Toyota intermittent stock worked in my 2004 Tacoma.

 

Any updates on this topic of 1st Gen intermittent wiper failures? My 1995 intermittent wipers do not function. Wiper function on low and high is OK. Is the intermittent functionality for the 1995 1st Gen embedded in the switch stalk on the steering column or is it in the wiper motor? I used the search and it led me here but no joy for my issue. Thanks for any guidance the community can offer.

 

Would love to see if stalks interchangeable for older tacos too

I 100% know that Subaru (97-2002) is a plug and play to get intermittent setting
But
I think the answer to the Q is
In 1995-1998…….
Was there an option (factory) to have intermittent wipers?

if so, OP, I’m guessing that a stalk swap would give us intermittent setting (plug and play)

 

Appears its all in the stalk but you lose the mist function for the interminent feature.

 

I believe that my intermittent wipers are factory installed in my 5/1995 build Taco.

Maybe the most expensive/option loaded model?

Don't fire the parts cannon until you take the steering column cover off and verify you don't have similar as mine...

 

What did you end up doing?
Also, are there any writeups or videos on how to get to the switch in a 95? It looks much more involved than in 98+.

 

Nothing. I've just adapted to having only two wiper speeds.
