GX470 brakes

Gonna be doing a Gx470 front brake upgrade on my 2010 trd off-road to help slow the 37’s down. I already have steel braided lines, other than that anything else I should be looking to replace? PFA

I've just realized the nicer selection of Gx460 steering wheels swap over. Seems there is alot in common with the Tacoma. Do the 2004 gen Gx460's have rear disc too?

 

Most of the GX crowd upgrades their 470 calipers/rotors to 460/5th gen 4runner stuff because the 470 calipers are known to potentially stick. And the 460/5th gen stuff is a little upgrade over the 470 stuff anyway.

I think there is a thread on that brake upgrade on here, I’d look into it.

Gotta be early 5th gen and early 460 models cause the caliper bolts are bigger. I don’t feel like getting another set of spindles and welding them up. I’m going to be grabbing all new hardware for everything and am usually pretty good about not hitting mud so I think I’ll be ok.

Dumb question but do 4runners have 2wd 5lug 5th gen?

 

All 5th Gen 4runners are 6 lug.

 

The master cylinder and more importantly the brake booster. Even with 37's and towing boats it stops really well.

Stay away from the 470 calipers they have , i'd go early 5th gen/ 460 calipers

I've personally experienced the sticky calipers on my GX470, I'd avoid them if possible.
I haven't looked into the BBK upgrade personally for the 3rd gen tacoma but if you can use the early 5th gen/ gx460 i'd go that route.
I did personally do the early 5th gen/ gx460 on my dad's FJ Cruiser and man it was such a huge upgrade. Went with all OEM parts from my local dealer.

 

i used the 14WA calipers and dust shields. i have an off road so i was unable to upgrade the master. the pedal feel took a second to get used it takes a touch more effort pedal effort. but i was always warping cryo rotors. i have not warpped a rotor yet.

 

I have an electronic master.

 

It’s a 2nd gen with a 3rd gen conversion. I already have the Gx stuff so hopefully I don’t have to many issues.

 

You make 35’s look like 32” tires lol!

So far so good.

 

5th gen is the minimum
there are upgrades beyond that that cost more, including rear brakes
