Yeah, it's damping the panel, so basically preventing it from resonating (aka being a speaker). If you really want to create a noise barrier, you're going to need some MLV (mass loaded vinyl).

I have 2011 Tacoma , I'm gonna try some stuff from Amazon , called AGG sound Amazon 's Recommendation. It's like 3/16" sheet neoprene , self stick for under carpet , inside of fire wall ect.also good to retain cabin temperatures.
    My cab averages 72 db
( dn load sound meter for smart phone )

I did the whole cabin. Floor, doors, back wall, roof. Multi layer approach. I think it helped but I also haven't ridden in a stock tacoma in probably 10 years. So it's hard to say how much, or if its really worth it for most people. I will say, windows rolled up...it's pretty quiet in there.

On a similar topic, does anyone think a thick layer of window tint does anything for sound? I suppose any additional layer would help to some degree, right? :pccoffee:
Looking at a random brand like xpel, their thickest is 2mil's. 2 mil on each window....any measurable difference?

2 mil is a general standard for auto film. Some ceramics are 1.5 A second layer could be applied using a clear security. Those start at 4 mil and go up from there.

That'd be an interesting test for someone. Have the car in a controlled environment and get a decibel reading. Layer a security film over a standard film for something like that 6+ mil's and do another decibel reading. I'd be genuinely curious if it does anything. I know it's not it's designed intention. But would be kinda cool if it did.

You'd probably need a much better dB meter than a smartphone app to detect the difference.

    It would be cooler though.

Well I have to admit, I'm more than a little surprised here. I did the pool tube trick, fitting it up between the cab and the front of the bed and it's definitely quieter! I'm going to do another tube vertically from the ends of the one in place and see itf there's additional improvement.

Can't say I've heard of this. Just stick a pool noodle in there and call it a day? lol.

It's mentioned in this thread and at least one other I had read in this forum. I really never gave it much credence but I'm making daily 120 miles round trips and have been really annoyed with the noise but have no time to do any real sound deadening so I tried it. I'm not going to try and explain why, someone else can venture there.

Lot of good advice here, I'll add that:

Getting the roof liner back in place is a gigantic pita. Mine is ~1/8" out of position so my sun visor clips don't go in all the way. Really dreading fixing it.

Under the floor, there is some kind of asphalt based sound deadening, don't try to get it up, just clean it really well, and stick the buttl rubber over it.

Lot to read here, if you're not doing a layer of ccf over top, you really should. 314mil fits pretty much every where. There's a couple tiny spots I wished I'd have used 150mil though.

The back wall, look closely where the side "seat belt" trim goes against the back wall. You may want to trim it down a tiny bit too make reinstalling with the ccf easier.

All in all, it was a "day" project. A very long day.. plan it for a weekend.

Make sure you organize and lable your bolts very well. You're going to have to remove like 50. You won't remember what they go.

Yes or a piece of pipe insulation.

I'm gonna stop at HD today and grab some of that pipe insulation and give it a shot. I have another long road trip coming up so I'm always willing to give something a try if it'll quiet things down.

If you want it to stick, use rapid remover after wet microfiber rags to get the dirt. Let the metal dry before trying to add your dynaliner.

How exactly are people positioning the pool noodle/pipe insulation?

I just shoved it up there on my old truck. Some have angled the ends down for water drainage or put the slit downward.

So horizontal straight across? I was imaging two pieces vertical for water drainage.

How high? About the middle, or lower? And are the covering the vents?
