265 or 285

Do you think 265 are gonna look to small on a 3" lift? I'm undecided if I wanna go with that or 285.

I think 285's look better on most lifted Tacoma's. With that said, I run 265's on mine because I don't want to take the hit on MPG's that 285's create.

 

I found 285/70/17 duratracs on 4wheelparts for $919 and a $40 rebate. Anyone know if there is somewhere cheaper?

 

265s .. better gas mileage, cheaper to replace.

 

You are already hurting your MPG's lifting the truck 3" so 285's if you want to keep 265's don't lift your truck it just looks goofy IMO that's my 2.c

 

That's pretty much what I'm thinking. Guess I'll be going 285

Definitely go with 285's. I don't even have a lift yet and the 285's look so much better, when I look at my dad's 2008 tacoma parked next to me with his 265's. Huge improvement going to 285

 

So you have no lift and fit 285's? Do you rub like crazy? I have a 2.5" lift and was planning on getting 265's because 285's would rub

 

Remember, 265 is just a width.

Stock size 265/70R16 is going to look a little small.

But I assume we're talking about 265/75R16 (which is a 32x10.5" oversize tire)

and 285/75R16 (which is a 33x11.5" oversize tire)

EDIT: (Naturally exact size varies from brand to brand. But you knew that.)

Enough folks run the 265/75R16 (or equivalent 265/70R17) when lifted 3" and have posted pics of how it looks and how it works that it's safe to say this isn't a bad looking combination with a tire that's practical for many reasons - price, rolling resistance - clearance when stuffed, fender coverage law compliance.

Enough folks run 285/75R16 (or equivalent 285/70R17) and have posted pics of how it looks and reported how it works to say that it's also a good looking combination with a tire that's almost certain to require you to remove mudflaps, trim/melt plastic inner fenderwell plastic, and possibly chop body cab mount.

Pick your poison. I run the 285s, and I've taken a pretty heavy hand with the xacto knife and heat gun on my inner fenderwells. But I haven't had to chop my cab mount.

 

Nope, zero rub. I did get the proper offset wheels, however, and I did make 2 minor trims to the inner plastic. Totally worth it, and took less than 1 minute per side.

What size wheels are you running? heighth, width, backspacing, offset?

 

18x10 wheels, 4.5 inch backspacing, -12 offset.

Post 39 a ways down that page, I have pics showing, marked in red on the pics, the pieces that were cut off to make them fit. Very easy.

the geolander was my first choice but i went with the Revo 2's at the last minute
