Dang, well hopefully after a few minutes of breathing and trying again will help out.

I took a few mins and came back got it unstuck from where it was, which is great! Problem is this is as far out as I can get it. The steering column yoke doesn't want to slide at all so I can't disconnect it and move it out of the way.

Whoever designed this should be clubbed.

I hit it with WD40 and whacked it a few times with a hammer to try and loosen her up. No dice so far...

Not that this means a lot, but the worse starter I’ve ever had the displeasure of trying to replace was on an old chevette. I can’t remember if we ended up replacing it or just junked the car

    Well, that sucks.

So, you've got a 2016 and have to replace your starter already?

How many miles on your truck?

About 140k, mostly above water. When I went to AOAA for the takeover a couple weeks back, one puddle turned out to be significantly deeper than anticipated, water came up to just about the top of my 31" tires, so I'm pretty sure water got into my starter through the breathers

    Oooooooohhhhh!

Wondering why there was some muddiness on the yoke.

So, do you have to have a carcass starter to turn in before Advance Auto gives you a new starter?

I would imagine you could order and get one and then turn the carcass (bad part) after install.

I'm guessing your just looking online for the starter. Call the local store and have them check worldpac. They are a wholesaler for oem parts that advance owns.

Yeah, I suppose that would also explain the sticky yoke. I got creative with a few wrenches and a screw driver to get it off. Of course, the WD40 and my persuader certainly helped haha.

I do have the old carcass so I can get thay core charge discount from trade in.
Yeah, I'm trying to find an OEM, Advance ordered one from some manufacturer called Carquest, apparently it's their supplier or whatever. I may call my local dealerships in the morning to see if they have any actual OEM in stock, and how soon they'd be able to get one in. I don't want to have to use my roomie's car for a week and a half.

That starter situation sucks. This made me think about water and mud getting in places...how does that work with the 6MT and the clutch...IIRC there is an inspection hole that just has a plastic clip over it...so in that much water would it get to the clutch?

Definitely sucks. I wasn't even deep enough to hit the air intake that would necesitate a snorkel. Which I suppose is a good thing, but even with a lift, I can't think of a way to seal or waterproof the starter so that doesn't happen in the future.
