Feb 2022, pinned the engine well past the stock redline (7250 rpm) to spin the 35s, but that was very much a self-induced situation (breaking trail in deep snow). Amazing how much heat comes out of the vents when you do that

Also had to do it in Silver Lake in July 2022 and July 2023, but shorter duration.

You did that for 3 full minutes without ever letting your foot up at all?

toyota is reluctant to let a hybrid battery discharge more than 50% from initial state. They also do not let battery charge to 100% during normal operating conditions in order to allow for room during regenerative braking. While 1.84 kwh is advertised capacity, in reality 0.92 kwh is a more reasonable capacity, maybe even less. I stand by my 90 secs or less. I can count on one hand the number of times my 159hp Tacoma has been floored for more than a few seconds.

Longer than that actually. The 2GR loves to rev. That's one of the reasons the older -FE version is used in the Lotus Evora.

Well hopefully it only needs to last about 13 seconds for a 1/4 miles run.

^Probably why the towing capacity of the hybrid models aren't higher - electric boost is depleted within the first two minutes of J2807 testing.

It’s a little extra oomph to get started from a stop till boost is built.

For 3 full minutes at max HP rpm without letting your foot up at all? Call me skeptical. But even if you did, you’d still have more torque and useful power than a current 3g

Anyone here placed a order with a dealer, I have one for a pro from Mtn States in CO. Curious if there are others.

I had a 2.7 3rd gen rental that I floored for an unknown amount of time headed north on I17 from Phoenix. It could not maintain the 75 mph speed limit up the grade.

Just saying, it can be done. I had it floored the whole time to maintain highway speed.

I'd still rather have the 4th gen hybrid though, as you are correct.

    @Hogleg918

The dealer would order it from the distributor.

The Pro is a MAX model. Nobody is taking (legitimate) orders for them yet.

It is just meant for short bursts, like passing. While the tow rating is only 6000 lbs, it will pull very well. It is a matter if the upcharge is worth it to the buyer. Me, probably step up to a Tundra non-hybrid instead at that point.

All depends what TT the much better half wants.

Depends how you define legitimate. Demand drives it and the dealers love it because they can gauge how much to charge.

A good example is the C8 Corvette. Over a year wait at many dealers for the past several years.

I wonder if the 4th Gen Tacoma Pro has that kind of pent up demand. I don’t think so with all of the other trims.

yeah its not with Toyota. Just a soft guarantee I'll be in the initial batch of allocations for the PRO they get. And at MSRP with no forced options.

That’s why I don’t understand the angst about “only x time at full power.” The 450hp in a mustang is only for short bursts. The 1000lb-ft of torque in an f350 is only for short bursts. All of us are pretty generally using <150hp on any given day except for incredibly short bursts

I believe the hybrid system may also also be able to add a bit of "oomph" when passing at highway speeds; we'll see once they/we start running them for real.

Yeah I don’t get it either, don’t even come close to using my 3G’s full potential. Have a few times had it at full throttle, but basically seeing what it can do. That thing will get up a boogie! Can get into an awful lot of trouble having it WOT.

Now my old trucks with the 22R, you could have the pedal to the floor fully loaded climbing passes all day long, they were so under powered you were never going to get it very fast to get into trouble.

Think the hybrid is going to be a hoot, but since I tend to lean to the practical side of things, would have been happier with better fuel economy. Who knows by 2026-27 model year when Toyota perhaps releases a solid state BEV, all of this will be moot.
