Which Wiring Adapters Do I Need For Non-JBL System, Howto Connect To OEM GPS Antenna?

I just bought a 2023 TRD Sport without the JBL system. I am doing a complete A/V build. So I am not using the factory speaker wires, etc, but I do want to be able to connect to the steering wheel controls, back up camera, etc... so which pigtails do I need to connect to the OEM wiring? Does the OEM headunit use a standard coax plug for the radio antenna or will I need an adapter? The new headunit has built in NAV, how does the OEM headunit connect to the OEM GPS antenna? Can I tap into that connection or will I have to run a separate GPS antenna?

 

You’ll want the Maestro RR and harness for your truck. This will handle all of your steering wheel controls, the camera, and several other features

For the gps antenna, there are specific adapters depending on the brand and radio. Kenwood and pioneer use different connectors, and nearly every other brand of radio uses one of those two.

There’s also an adapter for the XM antenna if you’re trying to keep using XM. But that also requires the XM module as well.

 

I just need the pigtails to connect to the OEM wiring. I think the only OEM wires I will need to connect to are power, ignition and steering control wires. I'll have 3 sets of RCA's running from the HU to the active x-over, then 3 amps connected to the x-over and the speakers wired directly to the amps.

 

Maestro RR2 is the way to go if you want to retain full functionality (and this keeps it pnp). I haven't had good luck splicing into factory wiring in the past and prefer pnp 100% of the time over splices. The steering wheel controls are data, so you typically need an interface for that.

could you share the head unit you’re installing? That will help

 

Fujitsu Ten AVN726e. They make Toyota and Lexus head units so I have had great success with them in the past. The Fujitsu Ten's may be getting old, but still better than most new HU's.

 

on the 2nd gen

pin 6 on the Toyota steering wheel harness (white with red stripe) goes to a ground.

pin 7 on the Toyota steering wheel harness (purple with white stripe) goes to the brown with black stripe wire on the AVN726e

ping 8 on the Toyota steering wheel harness (yellow with blackish stripe) goes to the brown wire on the AVN726e

I haven’t seen an eclipse in a hot minute!

I am attached at the hip to CarPlay so I couldn’t personally imagine not having that. And I wouldn't expect the nav to be useful because it probably hasn’t had an update since 09, but hopefully I’m wrong on that.
