I put Carlos with you, if that works. He usually camps in the 4Runner so shouldn't take up a lot of space.

Wait what? Doesn't @McSpazatron have a cabin there at this point? :D

Technically, one of the river sites is actually his, and it's actually rented through airb&b

Hey guys! I'm sorry I dropped the ball on planning a winter run. I've been pretty distracted lately. If anyone wants to throw something together I'll put it in the OP, and maybe attend if I'm free.

I'm still looking forward to seeing everyone at Wyalusing.

Hey, we only had a couple of days where the roads were shitty enough to be worthy.

Not so much. They were just snow. No ice. Lame.

I don't know what it was like down there, but the crap up here was so wet, it packed down to ice on the roads. It was over a week before the roads cleared off. It may not have been as clear as what we drove on last year, but it was just as slick!

By the way, that was quite fun...and intense.

Going to post this here as well:
Okay. I am going to the Apple Valley Farms winter event. Cost is $40. Badgerland 4x4 just confirmed with me that they won't be attending. Tried contacting Apple Valley about camping but it seems to me they are not camping for the winter thing. I am leaving Ashland around 6 am for my 2 1/2 hour drive down to the Chetek area. I won't have camp stuff so the truck will be at play weight... I am sure I will be done by 3 ish for my drive home. Sounds as in @bkhlrTaco's is going. Anyone else in? @McSpazatron? I hear you have a lifetime membership at Tigerton, but it is nice to get out and expand your possibilities. There are go arounds... New doesn't have to be scary. @OldSchlPunk? @Stoney Ranger-I am sure there will be an opportunity to roll Alf (if you make it happen) Open invitation to come play in a new Wisconsin 4x4 site. Now that my brakes are clean we need to get some of these Toyota mall crawlers in the dirt (since winter has exited (for the moment)) Let me know.

Hmmm. I’m thinking. Would require camping for sure. I need to check logistics and see if it’s doable.

Lake Wissota State Park isn't far from there and I bet camping will be wide open. I'd check the DNR site to make sure but could be an option for a quick overnight. Brunet Island State Park is also about the same distance away.

Brunet Island is a cool place! I stayed on #42 years ago, and had a great time. I'm thinking about staying there again sometime.

I'll be getting a room in Eau Claire Friday night and drive home on Saturday. Not really in the mood for winter camping.

I reserve the right to change my plans.

Damn, this trip is sounding more and more like fun. Too bad I don't have my camper yet and I'll be stuck here moving my business to a new location.
    I'll be expecting many pictures!!

Re: State Park camping looks like those might be closed for the entire season. Give WI DNR a call if that's in your plans.

Other options in that region are a little scarce. Here's a link to an AllStays map that I use sometimes when trying to find camping last minute. Definitely call ahead, options will be limited.

    https://www.allstays.com/Campgrounds/Wisconsin-campground-map.htm

If you guys are splitting up between the Up Nort'erners and Southerners, that BRF campground ice rink we stayed at last year seems to be open heading S on 94 and that's about it for quite a ways. Heading north further past the farms you can find some oddball county parks and maybe Natl Forest stuff but it's going to be a haul for the south guys coming back.

Yeah I definitely prefer the uniqueness of Brunet Island over Lake Wissota. Neat place but definitely swarming with families in summer months i.e. not conducive to our merry band of yahoos lol. Wissota has much larger campgrounds but only okay-ish hiking in my opinion. I've often swung through there and pretended to be camping for a free shower on longer trips lol.

So I looked at camp sites and availability. Lookls like there are some dispersed options a bit east of Chetek. I am willing to provide the kitchen and a loo if those who want to camp want something a bit more remote and free.

I pulled up to a camp shower a timer too and have never had anyone wonder if I had a campsite or not. I think people are just happy that at least some people shower when they're out and about

I'd like to come along just for the food.
But the truck still has to wait before I can drive.
