I took delivery Friday on a 2024 TRD OffRoad that I placed a deposit on two weeks ago in Northern California so I know that they are selling trucks as of Friday.

More to report on this. There is a small pop up, but there is also a menu to disable each pop up individually.

Heated steering wheel is Goldilocks just right. Not too hot, not too cold and heated all around. Better than the new tundras which was weak.
The seats temps start as hot and go up from there. Way too hot for my precious bottom.

Engine sound is not going to make your Willie tingle. Turbo noise is nice. At idle and very low throttle sounds like a diesel. Under various loads sounds like an angry furious hamster running on his wheel too fast.

I do like the power though. Lots of torque down low and 8% grade at 65 never broke 3k rpm. Feels as stable to me as the tundra at 78 on freeway. Very quiet at steady pace.

also be warned. As of now there are few OEM accessories. If you want steps, mats, console safe, etc, they aren’t available yet unless they came with the truck.

More to report on this too. The stereo sounds fine, plenty of bass, subwoofer in back. Definitely tuned for front passengers. No rattles! The tundra system is better but the whole interior vibrates. No treble in the rear at all. Not the B&O in my Audi, but not trash.
I tried everything from Diana krall, classical, rock, metal and hick hop. It’s not going to win any awards, but also didn’t make me cringe and was very enjoyable. The portable Jbl speaker stand alone is weak.

@WV_Tacos thanks for the feedback. Can you let us know the mpg when you fill up please? Thanks.

I believe he’s referring to the gutless nature of the 3.5 V6. Maybe he’s being a bit sarcastic though, I only need about 4K RPM to get into the power. Haha.

Nailed it. If you look at the power/torque curve, you really don't pass 100 HP until 3k rpm. The reality is also the same as the graphs. (huge RPM's are needed for modest power).

It’s notable that the new (highlander) 2.4t makes around 40hp more at 3000rpm than the 3.5 and close to 50hp more at 4000rpm. It really is a crazy difference in the rpm that people usually operate at

I haven't seen a legit torque curve but there's speculation the peak torque starts at a very low RPM and is a flat plateau to almost 5k rpm. I can say without even getting on it at all, I merge onto the freeway without delay.

Oh yeah I don’t think many dynos have been done yet, but you can see it on the highlanders, which I doubt are tuned for even more low end than the Tacoma:

Various places show peak torque at 1700 rpm for the Tacoma's 2.4L.

I’m sure that’s just a dyno limitation above. No engine hits that hard

When putting some ceramic coating on my windshield, i did notice some of the moulding's adhesive at the bottom popped free. This shouldn't leak right?

Update: Did some investigation with about a gallon of water to test. BLUF: it's just cosmetic.

Opened the hood, then dumped water right in the crack (and over it). No water went inside the engine bay.

That black plastic piece is a little warped and popped up (adhesive wasn't strong enough to hold it down). That whole black plastic piece is mostly cosmetic in purpose. Water that channels over the trim piece, or under the gap (in my case) all goes to the same place, a "V" channel underneath the entire black plastic wiper assembly; so in short, regardless of whether or not water from the windshield goes over and down into the black tray or under it, it all drains to the same safe spot anyway.

Water that goes over (or under in my case) the trim piece drains through where the windshield wipers are connected to the motor, that's the designed low spot.

It's going to take a heat gun, good adhesive and pressure to seal it back up.

Not sure what’s happening to your Tacomas but 3.5 has got adequate low end, great mid and awesome high end for passing on the highway. I tow heavy at times, go off-road loaded over payload and she does it no problems.

I recently moved up north and drove for 10.5 hours through mountain passes. I miscalculated and overloaded my poor single axle trailer by at least 500-1000… You can see how there is absolutely no space between tire and wheel well, also tires are squished even though they were at max 50PSI. Never again will I do this. My truck was also over payload.

I’m lifted 2”, on 33s, sliders, winch, front bumper and roof rack. Here is pics of me climbing long steep hills while fighting headwinds:

About 3400 RPMs and ~1/4 throttle. Not even close to 4600 RPMs that so many guys say is needed to get “peak torque” Gas mileage was trash as expected.

Here I’m climbing a hill unladen. Like 2.5K RPMs. This is why I don’t understand this “lack of low end” complaint. :)

Either folks don’t how to drive or something is wrong with their trucks.

Or, hear me out: the 2.4t will do everything you just did but better

    Ha.

I highly doubt it. All this hype about “new and improved” Tacoma and I honestly don’t see it.

They towed that little and short thing that weighs like 3500 and we’re not impressed going up hills. They have a new and completely unmodified Tacoma. MPGs we’re trash too, just like 3g

    https://youtu.be/8wfsEnXIK9k?si=3v7BZD3-pTUYY9bc
My trailer GVWR is 3500 but it was closer to 4500, plus it’s extra tall thus more wind resistance.

From MPG numbers and towing tests, 4G is pretty unimpressive if you ask me. Let alone pathetic payload numbers.

I wonder if it’s possible to find towing reviews of the 3rd Gen that are less than flattering…

I honestly don’t think you should buy a 4th gen.
