Driver error doing what? Did you even watch the video? He was just trying to drive over a tiny bump in the trail that they have driven dozens of other vehicles over.

    My guesses are:

    1. broken cv shaft
    2. broken 4wd actuator

The pop came from the right side of the truck so my guess is a CV coupling.

Gassing it while switching to 4Lo, I could be wrong. Just a guess.

I'm thinking something in the transaxle. When they tried 4Hi neither front tire was spinning. I'm sure they'll post a video of the issue. But guessing is fun, some get so serious...lol

He turned off crawl control which wasn’t working to get up that section. It appears he is still in 4lo. He was definitely still in 4wd when something broke. Not a good moment for Toyota.

I wonder if the current QC hold is related.

He was already in 4lo. You have to be for crawl control.

Yeh I thought when they showed the dash the 4hi was lit and the 4lo was blinking, to me I thought that means it was still engaging to 4Lo. That's why i think (a guess) he was gassing it while it was going into 4Lo.

Overall its been a rough rollout for the Tacoma. Delayed production/availability; an ongoing QC hold; and already a few (possibly random) failures. Best to hold off on purchasing one for at least 6-12 months IMO.

Let me repeat what is in the video. He starts the section in 4lo with Crawl Control low speed, and MTS set to Rock.

That didn’t work so he disengaged Crawl Control.

Then he changed the setting to god knows what.

The video edits are confusing. It is not clear what setting he was in at the time of the break, and those two dufusses don’t state or show the setting before the attempt.

Regardless of the settings, it isn’t driver error except going up there with the shit tires.

Never would have happened with a Land Cruiser. :D

Yeah, planning on MY25 at the earliest… also want them to have a green color option.

or maybe I’ll keep my 3rd gen, get new gears, body mount relocate, cut and fit 35s…

It’s edited so we don’t have to watch a 3 hour long video.

I think it was noted he might have been going from 2hi to 4lo possibly improperly but I'm sure the next video will tell us

Aggressive traction control system combined for the 1st time with a high torque engine in a Tacoma

You would think that other components would be redesigned to handle the higher expected stress. We shall see how well the engineers I mean, MBAs did.

I’m willing to bet we will see more of this

He was already in 4lo. It’s required for Crawl Control which he used on the first attempt.
