I have taken such loving care of my truck I decided (With the advice of several mechanic friends) I would keep the ol gal.
Problem is I am disabled and even with the help of cushions I can only drive about 30 min without the help of drugs.
I have been in some really cool car seats that extended that time and was wondering if there is a car seat swap with manual lumbar support available for my 03 Extra Cab. Also I believe something would have to be done about the occupancy sensor in the passenger seat but I may not even replace that one......But I really want to.
Lots of nice car seats out there and aftermarket just seem too expensive to be guessing if that would solve my problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers all!!!

There's a number of seating options available depending on how much work you’re willing to do.

The “sport” seats for these will bolt right in, but you’ll need to wire up the lumbar since it’s powered. 3rd gen 4runner seats require an adapter that you can buy, and you’ll probably also want some spacers as the inner 2 mounts will usually sit a bit lower than the outer 2 mounts. I went this route for the manual lumbar and minimal work to get them to work.

Others have used early 2000s Subaru seats and modified the tracks to fit.

If you search, there are a bunch of threads with this exact question.

You can fit just about anything if you can weld, or know someone who can weld the oem tracks onto a new seat. I think the main problem you'll run into if you go this route is seat height, with most seats being too tall to fit. This is more of an issue if you're over 6'.

Recaro has base brackets to fit and their seats are recommended for their support. Very spendy, but lots of options for adjustable lumbar support, extendable front seat base for knee support, different height thigh bolsters for easier access, adjustable width thigh and seat back bolsters. There have been people who’ve done the swap on here, it’s on my list after I’ve done 2 seat swaps with less than desirable results.

Scheel Mann also has very nice seats, but even more spendy than Recaro

Issue I ran into, used Subaru Crosstrek leather seats that raised the seat base a couple inches, made the truck a total pain in the ass (literally) to drive. Even after I bought corbeau seat brackets and let in the bases and it dropped the seat about 3/4”, still too tall, my wife hated it and I’d hit my head on the lid of the door jam when I’d lean out to see where I was maneuvering

You’re wise to do your homework is my best advice

    @zunich1

Best advice I can offer not mentioned here is go sit in multiple different seats. Places like 4WP and other vendors carry aftermarket seats you can sit in and try before buying.

Otherwise, anything you buy will be a shot in the dark.

I have a bad back and being disabled I suffer from a ton of back pain myself; a quality seat means a better quality of life whether in or out of the vehicle.

My Land Cruiser (from the last 3 Toyota's I've owned) actually had probably the worst seat followed by the Tacoma.

I ended up going with a Sparco and it made 8-10hr drives easy to do all over again -

I tried Corbeau but disliked the quality, not to mention it was really uncomfortable.

IMG_4936.jpgI have Procar Touring currently on Corbeau brackets, I don’t recommend. Aside from the big issue that the seat backs don’t come forward far enough to give good access to the back, thr seats feel cheap, a lot of flex in the seat back. Looking back at how much I’ve messed with them I wish I would’ve just bought Recoro Experts and been done with it. The seat is such a connection with a vehicle, it’s kind of like a bed, if it’s not a good fit it’ll make you miserable.

I've had reg tacoma buckets, scion seats, corbeau seats, and finally (favorite) Tacoma Sport Limited Seats. A lot of the aftermarket seats just make other cab things annoying ( reclining, seat belt receiver angle, too high, too low, weird angles, adapting brackets etc. I would keep an eye out for some tacoma Sport / limited buckets.

Geeze. Thanks for everyone's comments and yes it is important to tell what NOT to buy as well. So far I think I will do a long search for the sport/limited seats. I have noticed that there are two electrical connectors below the driver's seat. I should have taken measurements and pics to post..............mental note to do that. Cheers and thanks again to you all. Zunich1
