I’ve got my tailgates stolen for the second time. Both times in front of work. they broke my lock and the antitheft thing I bought on Amazon the cut it was bolt cutters,.

I just received a new Target, but I need it to be re-keyed. is there a kit I can buy to do this?

I also ordered a Poppin lock, for I could install it.

and looking into buying tailgate security lock or just having that space welded shut.

    any suggestions?

    thank you.

As far as tailgate anti-theft devices, take a look at this one. I have one and highly recommend it.

I have the Sabellco lock, it’s pricey but for the peace of mind, worth it.

Also, made by a guy on TW, I believe.

I'm thinking maybe a locksmith can rekey it for you?

This was the one I had . it was a gift. All it took was bolt cutters. These criminals are getting savvy,. Cop told me they’re using crowbars to pop off the other ones.

Toyota needs to make an antitheft device for our tailgates, and it should come automatically installed in every truck. I don’t know just my two cents.

No, judges need to start throwing thieves in jail. The problem isn’t Toyota. The problem is society.

I totally agree with you judges need to start throwing the criminals in jail. I work in retail and they get away with stealing everything and anything there’s nothing no one can do. The cops always tell us there’s nothing they could do even if they arrest them they’ll be let out in about an hour. But Toyota knows that the tailgates are being stolen and should help it their customers by adding an antitheft device to their products .

The OP has his tailgate stolen via "Bolt Cutters"; this simple device recommended can be easily disabled by an equally simple Torx wrench most likely will not solve his neighborhood problem. A thief can hide a wrench even easier than hiding a bolt cutter. There has to be something better than this product. Changing to this product will only make it easier for the thieves to take his tail gate once again.

Oh hell, if the thieves wish to be so obvious as carrying a tail gate off, they do not care about what they use to procure it.

you can use bolts instead of torx bolts or
fill torx head with jb weld
anything can be beat, the idea is to slow them down
thieves cant bring their whole tool box
i use 4 methods to deter them

    thanks for being so negative

IMG_1853.jpg thats what im going with if it happens the second time with me . My insurance was a pain in the neck for 5 months dealing with them until they paid out , i almost gave up half a dozen times. Plus theres no prevention you can only try to deter them
