I have a 2007 double cab silver Tacoma 4x4, TRD off road package that i love so far. It has 95,000 miles on it. I have changed my own oil and filter since i got the vehicle at 65,000 miles every 5k miles. I have been using mobil 1 and figured since the mileage is getting up there i would switch to the good stuff and use Royal Purple along with their oil filter. I put Royal Purple oil and Royal Purple oil filter in it at about 94,500 miles. My wife drives it primarily for distance purposes because i drive 60 miles one way to work. Anyway, we have both noticed the vehicle feeling like it is losing power SOMETIMES when you give it the gas, like the engine is lugging and won't pick up speed. I put a K&N air filter on it at about 85K miles. I am really concerned because i bought this vehicle to have a good mid sized truck for the family to LAST a while that i could use for hunting or whatever. I take very good care of the truck because it is my pride and joy right now until other toys come along. any ideas about why it seems to be "losing power/ lugging" would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe try some fuel injector cleaner additives as well (the kind you add to gas) :notsure:

Have you cleaned your MAF Sensor?

I have not messed with the MAS. What is it's purpose anyway, i have heard people talk about them on here and that does seem like it could be the problem.

^^^ This! Guaranteed great place to start especially if you a K&N. K&N's are great and I love mine, but the oil eventually blows through and clogs up the throttle body. I figured what the hell and so I cleaned my throttle body after the truck started lagging. Man what a difference. There's was a pile of sludge around the butterfly like you wouldn't believe. Now I go very sparingly on the air filter oil. I would say with 95% certainty this is your issue as it was definitely the same symptoms I experienced.

Are there any instructions on here for cleaning mass air flow sensor and throttle body? I hope this works, hard to believe cleaning the residue on a throttle body could make that big a difference.

Well it's more like sludge and it begins to look like a clogged artery if you go long enough without cleaning it.

not to many, love it the way it is
After fixing the problem may I suggest, AFE pro dry air filter - basically the same as K&N without the need for oil on the filter
