is it possible to get a decent air compressor for under 200

I was going to get a powertank but I don't think its in the budget before the summer. I am looking for something to air up enough from after the beach until I can get to a gas station. I know it would probably be fine but I don't really want to be doing much road driving on 17 psi. Are there any reasonable compressors that won't break the bank, but also not day 20 minutes a tire ? Any suggestions are appreciated.

 

harbor freight, but really 17 wont do anything, I go from pismo to the free chevron station about a mile away at 10-12 psi and havent had any problems

 

advance autoparts has one for $60 that will bring a 32 inch tire from 18 to 38 in 3 minutes. i've had one mounted under my hood for 3 years now, and it still works like the day i got it.

 

I'd probably go down to 15 if I had a way to air back up. Gas station is about 5 miles away

I noticed your located on cape cod. I take it your driving on the National seashore, not sandyneck (they have a bunch of sweet free compressors.) 5 miles at 15psi wont kill your tires, unless you do it every single day. If i were you i would just buy a 4-5 gallon air compressor from lowes or something because the newer trucks have the nice outlet in the bed. way more powerfull than a Viair and you could run a small air tools.

 

vair is for sure the way to go, but then you're pretty much at the cost of the powertank he was looking at.

 

true but with the power tank you gota have it some ware you can get to it and you gota make sure its full before you go out and do anythin witch also cost you not much but still after so many times it will get old and pricey with the viar set up all you gota do is flip a switch and plug in a hose and it comes with a air tank and all the lines and so on and so forwarth

i'm with you on that for sure, which is why i don't have a compressor and not a power tank. from what i've heard from people who have them is the benefit is that it's realy fast. how often are you in a hurry to inflate your tires though.

 

Yea the lines do get pretty bad, but i never leave till i get kicked off so then the lines are a pretty small. It takes forever to clean up the fiest we have

EDIT and plus all you gota do is run ur compresser while ur driving back so that way once you hit the road pull over and you tank will be full and u can run air tools off it too witch would be nice on the trail

This is my first year at sandy neck, how are the rangers with drinking, I don't mean partying but do they give you a hard time if you have cups.

 

The rangers are pretty good about it i have never been talked to about beer although i always have it in a coozy or cup and keep it pretty much outa sight. Glass bottles on the other hand will get you in trouble with the rangers

MV-90 and am very pleased. Speed is faster/comparable to the Craftsman hot dog compressor that I had in my garage. Only downside is the guage is pretty unreliable.

I called OutLaw Off-Road - They totally discouraged me from mounting an air compressor.

I told them I was looking for something to fill inflatables while at the river. Air up tires or fix a flat if needed. That my portable kept being moved in and out of the truck and wound up in the garage more then in my truck due to space limitations.

They wanted $150.00 for the AC and another $300+ for the install. I was like what...are you kidding me? Then they said I should mount a power tank to the frame as the best solution.

I am still looking for a better solution - pics always helpful.

 

The only good place i have seen a tank mounted was in the bed. That kinda defeated the purpose of OBO, Maybe you 4 door guys can fit one under the backseat?

 

It would have to be behind the backseat after the plastic's gone if you want to do that.


If you are trying to mount a tank, talk to the guys who do air lockers. I think the tank gets mounted under the vehicle somewhere.
