It is on correctly. You are looking at the smooth side running outward, on the idler/tensioner pulleys. If you look at the Pulleys with grooves, you can see the belt mating with it's grooved portion to them correctly. Ski

Hmmm... Is there a technical reason to have 2 "Idler No. 2" pulleys, rather than more straightforwardly calling the third one "Idler No. 3"?

Well you had me for a moment when I opens this thread. I figured you had really great pulley with edges that kept it on :) Kinda like trying to get a fish line in that little hole after a 12 pack

"Alternator" is a US-term for what is called "generator" in the rest of the world. We are an exception to an accepted automotive language.

You gloss over the fact they do similar functions but are in fact two different things.

An alternator is a device that converts mechanical energy into AC electrical energy.A generator is a mechanical device which converts mechanical energy to either AC or DC electrical energy. An alternator always induces an alternating current. A generator can generate either alternating or direct current.

I believe the top 2 are the same part number and interchangeable and the bottom one is slightly different diameter or size? I think..

People cannot figure out what a generator is, and you want me to confuse them with AC and DC currents?

BRO is correct. #2 pulleys are identical and #1 pulley has a wider bearing. In fact, if replacing only the bearings in the pulleys, two of the #2 bearings fit in the #1 pulley. That’s what I did on mine as no one, at the time I replaced them, made the wide bearing. I haven't checked if they do know but the two-bearing setup is going on five years or so and doing fine.
