With my 2018 Pro I've noticed what feels like a slipping trans when shifting from 1st to 2nd, usually when cold, like when first starting it up for the day and heading down my street.

It's not a constant thing, but I'm wondering if anyone else experiences this. Just turned 60k miles, and I've definitely noticed it in the past here and there. It seems to slip during the shift and the motor revs up and then the trans catches, happens pretty fast, but noticeably not normal.

I have the ECT Always On mod, fwiw.

You can try doing a drain & fill with Toyota WS fluid. Set the fluid level correctly in case it was low from the factory.

I had the slipping issue when my truck was new. It was 1 quart low on transmission fluid from the factory and I also had a transmission TSB done so I’m not sure which or if both fixed it. Here is a transmission TSB that does cover 2018s. This TSB is covered for 8 years or 80K miles (see post #12 on this thread).

Good stuff guys, I'll look into both the trans fluid level and the tsb. Thanks!

And at 60k, now is the time to start keeping that fluid fresh and protecting that transmission!

Normal. My 18 does this to on cold start. Acept mine is 2 to 3. You could drain and fill but it won't help with it. Toyota trans are known for this on cold start ups. When it warms up everything is smooth like butter

I was also having the same issues when I first bought my truck new this past January.

From stand still, a light gentle throttle through 1st into 2nd, I noticed "trans slip" type of sensation. When I brought the truck in for my 5K service, I did let my Service Advisor know of the symptoms. He said the tech looked into it and said there was nothing wrong with the transmission and it was all in good working order.

Now I have 10K+ on the truck and I don't notice the slip as much... or maybe I got used to it(?).

My dealer wants $250 for a drain and refill. They don't check transmission fluid during the two year free maintenance. Guess I need a Scan Gage to check fluid temps.

it seems like if the timing is just right, meaning if i step on the gas just at the moment its shifting, and its cold, thats when it could happen. but going to replace the trans fluid anyway and see

My 2016 sometimes slipped like yours and there was also a delayed shift from reverse to drive after I backed out of the driveway in the morning. A Toyota service bulletin addressed and solved the issues in July of 2016. Good luck with them figuring out the TSB number you need.

I had a full fluid exchange done, and it greatly improved my shifting/"shift drag" that I felt.

I just bought the fluid and paid the dealer 80$ for the service.

I did the drain and fill with the trans fluid, no issues, haven't seen the mini slip issue after that, time will tell.
