265/70-17 Hankook ATM RF10

Discount Tire has 3 different sets of the for sale. Which ones to get? Going to put them on either Moto Metal 17x9's or ATX Ledge 17x8. Strictly summer use.

 

I only saw 2 on their website, one was a P-Rated tire and one is a Load Range E tire. The E rated tires will have a very stiff sidewall and ride much rougher. These would come stock on something like a 1 ton pick-up or are useful for off-roading since the sidewall is thick and resists punctures. P is a much softer tire and would be comparable to the Dunlops that come on some of these models stock. They'll get the job done for every day driving though. If you tow or haul a lot I wouldn't go with a P rated tire. Are those the only 2 options you're considering because aside from tread pattern, these tires have much different uses?

 

Strictly just for driving purposes. I have Geolanders on my Sport stock 17's. Any recommendations.

 

The P-Rated tires will get the job done. If it's basically just used as a daily driver with the occassional trip to the transfer station, no need for E-Rated tires. They're just overkill in my opinion. A P-Rated tire is a passenger tire so it is on the lighter end of what you'd want to put on the truck which is why I was asking your use or if you were considering any others.

Edit: I've heard great things about Geolanders. Have you thought about Toyo Open Country, Cooper Discoverer and there's another one that's similar that I'm not thinking of, I'll post it if I think of it.

Michelin's all-terrain tire if it's for summer use. It will wear well and be quiet but they're not a very meaty looking tire like some of the others.

Anything else you recommend for me to put on? I like BF Goodrich AT/S, do they make a lighter tire

 

I listed a few above, but also the Bridgeston Revo 2, Firestone Destination and yes, you can get the BFG A/T's in a load range C.

 

You can get BF G's in C load? Where and how much?

They're advertised for $218 but I wouldn't swear to these guys being the cheapest around. They're located in Albany and every once in a while they have pretty good deals. If these guys can find them then I'm sure other local shops can get ahold of them. I'm not sure if you have a Townfair near you but you can find the cheapest price around and they'll match it. I found a down and dirty website that I would never give my credit card to and they matched the price on the Coopers I bought from them.

No problem! It took me forever to finally decide on tires. I haven't heard anything bad about General tires but no first hand experience.

 

Man, what the heck? They have plenty of the 17s but they've been backordered on the 16s for a month or two. Lame.

 

The Hankooks have got to rate up there as one of the best tires I have had on my 4WD Tacomas (3)... P rated are fine, that's what the the truck came with, afterall.

 

Don't go with the E load rated tires. My Terra Grapplers are E rated and they are heavy and stiff. I knew that when I bought them though. Found them used at a good price. When I wear them out I'm going back to standard load tires.
