2024 Tacoma, Paint defects! Look before you buy…

I bought a 00 Ford Expedition new & it was silver, still have it...Paint is crap at this point...
I like silver...
I know this is all personal preference, just trying to get pushed a direction.
Most popular color truck in san diego of any make is white, for many good reasons..
I really do like the silver on the tacoma, really makes the bed & front flares pop along with fender flares if you have an sr5...
But something about white & black clean color combo...
Along with long term as long as they resolved the flaking paint issue, I think the white will remain nicer longer....
Cant see micro scratches in white clear like silver.
I know im over thinking things, but I keep my vehicles forever / long time, get my monies worth per-say..
Dont get new vehicles every 5 years...
One minute I think my mind is made-up & im just going to go with silver, then I flip flop...

 

Silver was my first choice, but the dealer that had one at the time I was shopping just couldn't bring themselves to deal, so I ended up a nice white truck from another dealer who had wanted my business. But I do see the silver trucks on the road, and can't help admire how nice it looks and lets the light reflect off the body lines of the truck.

 

Just wrap the entire truck in blue tape. Frog tape makes a neat green color. That could be an option as well. Problem solved.

 

Didn’t think about taking a picture till after the fact. The truck that I had reserved came in today instead of next week, driver, side rear door had, basically a dimple where paint did not it adhere to the metal, pretty much a hole / crater with missing paint, was pretty large…
Refused to take delivery on this 1 also, this is my fourth truck now…
Not including the 1 that was bought back.
3 dealer trades & 1 allocated reserve.
I’m dead set on white though, don’t want silver, don’t want bronze, don’t want underground…

 

I have zero paint defects that my detailer could find. Everything looks great even all the body lines and gaps.. this was one of the first thing that I did when I picked up the truck at the dealer.. maybe I got lucky..

 

The metallics look like Glass, it’s the White that’s the issue…
I’ve seen plenty of whites that are flawless, just not any SR5’s…
I’m being punished for something, but I’ll just keep waiting…
Refuse to settle!

 

My white is perfect, with the exception of my rear quarter rock chipping

 

If it goes into 2025 before I get my truck, so be it, it is what it is.
sure is nice negotiating these $4600 discounts though!

 

Basically all I ever see around here is white pickups. There was no way I was going to add another. Was never a fan of silver either, but that silver on the Tacoma is sweet. Love that blue hue to it.

 

I really love that silver color too, just can’t do it as that silver will break down in regards to the clear before any other color…..

 

My 2016 was silver, and it looked great the day I turned it in for this one.

Sound like its paying off not trading her in, she will be out of your driveway in less than a month at this point.

But then I got to thinking, my old employer before retiring "hint owns a nascar team" has a Toyota store but few hours away....
I killed myself for them...
I sent a text to the owner on Sunday & within 5 minutes the Director of Variable Operations & General Manager of the dealership called me on a Sunday...
Even though I stated in the text, it can wait till monday...
Theyre twisting my arm in getting a sport, in white of coarse....
Guess Ill learn to like the hood.....
Really didnt want a sunroof...
Will most likely ditch the wheels...
Giving me a deal I cant say no to..

This is behind me, after inspecting five trucks and all of them having fucked up white paint, not as bad as my first truck, but I settled on a sport. Toyota bought my first truck back, probably five months ago.

 

I followed the story, so I knew about the buyback, just didn't know the truck you ended up getting, unless you covered that in another thread...thanks.

well fellas, another truck got bought back today…
Sedgwick met him at the dealer, took his keys & handed him a full payment refund as this truck was paid off..

 

Toyota finally bought my truck back, took almost 8 months for it to happen.Had a black 24 Tacoma Limited that had cloudy doors that almost looked like flat black.Paint was very soft... couldn't wash it without getting micro scratches in it.Toyota gave me full purchase price plus sales tax.Took the money and purchased a 24 Canyon AT4X with flawless paint on it.Shout out to Slater for telling me to be patient and hang in there...that Toyota would do the right thing and buy it back.

 

I know you few guys have wanted to eat a bullet over the process, easy peasy....

I made the service dept aware of the situation & filled roughly around
May 10th
Fse inspected truck
july 24th
approval / buyback notification
August 15th
gone...
September 12th

4'ish months...
But I was no BS, I was on them weekly....
Kept calling, requesting claims adjuster to give me updates.
ALWAYS got a call back within 24 hours...
I squaked about all their missed deadlines, called them out on their BS, etc...
Always made them aware & riminded them I had a very good lemon law attorney firm sitting on the sidelines with all the info, case#, repair orders, etc, ready to waste more of toyotas money if this drags on anymore or outcome is other than buyback.....
They were over me & knew I wasnt going to ease-up...
FSE recommended color sanding various panels & not doing anything with the roof....
