Had an 06 Off Road with 684k miles. Original motor & tranny. Toyota gave me a new frame for free at 390k!
The 06 was sold, still running strong for $6500, when I bought a 2018 Off Road. My Gen 3 just turned 200k miles today with no problems. Probably do shocks and tires next month to get ready for the winter. and another 200k!! Love these reliable trucks.

Nice!! I’ve put 2.5 million miles on my previous 4 Toyota trucks one being a 1st gen Tacoma. My current 2015 has 160k. Take care of these trucks and they take care of you.

Welcome, the highest mileage 2nd gen documented only had 500k miles so if you have proof (not saying you’re lying) you would hold the record for highest miles on a second or even 3rd gen!

Pretty Plenty of third gens well over 200k. Mines sitting at 223,000. One member on here reached 400k already. I believe the highest miles documented on a 2nd gen is 1.6 million, belonging to Mike Neal. He replaced the original engine after 880k miles!

    That guy had a 2trfe 2.7 4cylinder not the 1gr v6 4.0

there’s only one documented 1gr going 500k miles whether on a Tacoma fj cruiser or 4Runner

if the op truly has had over 700k on his 1gr it’s the only one ever probably (granted a lot of people don’t post on the internet) but it’s extremely rare to hear about a 1gr hitting 400k miles with proof

You said 2nd gen not 1gr. I think I’ve seen only seen one or two 1gr on this forum with over 400k. Regardless because the 1gr was used globally I’m sure plenty have made it to that milestone. Really shows how reliable the 2.7 was though. That little engine is incredible.

the 2tr is in inline 4 and an iron block, an inline engine will always be more reliable than a v engine because it’s balanced and the iron block will be more reliable than an aluminum (don’t get me wrong I have two 1grs so I want them to last forever) I just don’t think from what I’ve seen online the 1gr can do it. It’s been around like you mentioned globally for over 20 years now and not one video on YouTube or picture on the internet of a 1gr with over 500k miles on the odometer

When 1GR's die, how do they typically die? Blown headgasket?

I’m not sure what’s more impressive, the milage achievement or the fact that you actually got somebody to pay 6500$ for a truck with damn near 700k on it.

    normally I find a job
Then I find a place to live near that job
That involves a statistically average amount of miles per year
Not leaving the truck in gear 24/7 on a dyno

V engines are more balanced. I4’s are inherently unbalanced due to no opposing plane. And why late I4’s have balance shafts.

pretty sure 1GR has iron liners and built to handle 1000hp.

the point of a heavy iron block inline engine like a 4 or 5cyl is having a turbo. 2.7 has no turbo.

glad you found some crack to smoke

Mine's got documented 538,000 miles. How do I know? Bought it new back in 2007 and watched every mile click by on the odometer.

yeh I heard it's the I6 that is the ultimate best-balanced engine. (not the I4.) Straight-6 is used for a lot of large truck diesel motors for that reason.

1GR does have cast-iron cylinder liners. Not sure it's built for 1000 HP per se but idk. At least the crankshaft is.

MotoIQ dude says the forged crank of the 1GR is among the beefiest he's ever seen in a stock V6:

    slowly erasing past owner hacks
Barring a Chrysler most n/a engines nowdays will go 200k+ on 5k oil changes and reasonable maintenance. I think though we are on the downturn with over reaching emmisions expectations. Look at whats happened to the once simple and efficient diesel.

Toyotas though are on top of the heap for longevity still.
