Hey all. Looking for a solution. My A/C clutch disintegrated this summer. I am looking to fix in the spring. In the meantime I need to run my defrost this winter. I'm looking for the best way to disable the A/C so that when I switch to defrost on the rotary dial, the A/C will not try to run. TIA Cheers, Dave

Just pull the MG CLT Relay in the engine bay fuse box, that will prevent it from sending power to the A/C clutch.
Note your A/C light may flash if it tries to engage it but it won't power up the clutch with the relay removed.

That part worked good. Light still flashes, but I can live with that. Next question. I hooked up my old school aftermarket A/C recharge kit with a gauge to the low pressure port. 0 psi. Can I assume when the A/C clutch went it took out the front seal of the compressor? Won't get done til the spring. Thought I might get away with just replacing the clutch.

Certainly plausible, unless you can obviously see oil around A/C components you would need to use other methods to find the leak like pressurizing the system and using a leak detector to find the leak.

Removing the MG CLT relay would disable any compressor operation.

If your looking to keep the A/C from coming on in defrost mode but keeping all other functionality there's a mod for that, on 05-08 it's as simple as sniping a wire. 09-15 you have to tie the wire to 12v.

If I understand your question, it's full time delete as I don't need my A/C til spring, but need to run the defrost without the clutch trying to engage

If there's no charge in the system, you're going to need a new dryer as well.

I will leak test in the spring to determine if the clutch chunks may have taken n out the compressor seal and go from there.

Party on. I can see I'm gonna have to blow the dust off my wallet in the spring ;-)

so apparently there is a wire mod someone posted (thank you) for disabling compressor during defrost.

full time complete disable is probably not a good idea. Versus getting it moving and working sometimes and circulating the oil and gas.

Complete disable is a great idea when the A/C clutch is pooched hard and there is no more oil and gas to circulate ;-)
