I luckily had help from a visiting experienced mechanic. When we spliced the blue wire at S7 he noticed that it was blackened. So not melted but blackened due to resistance. This was also the case with the splice at 14/DB. So soldering it was a bit difficult. We still did not measured 12V at 7/S7. Only when jiggling with the backprobe at 14/DB we got 12V. So we left the needle/backprobe in to ensure we got 12V coming in. There was constant 12V at the male PIN in the DB connector though. The solenoid did not work so it is bust. My mechanic said that during its demise it probably created the resistance resulting in the blackening of the wire and the pin at 14/DB. We tried to dissamble the shift assy to get at the solenoid but stopped halfway. As it is my daily driver we did not want to risk breaking it. I will order a used shifter assy with working solenoid and install that. I saw that it comes with the connector and a bit of wire. Is there a way to remove one of the female PINS of the spare connector so that we can use that to replace the apparently faulty PIN14 at connector DB?

Yes they can be de-pinned with the appropriate tools, usually not too bad but can be tricky for beginners.

    Thanks DM93.
I searched on ebay for the part and found some shifter assemblies priced between 80~200$. The references I can see to ID the part are the code 789, the embossed 4 and the 3rd gear as highest manual gear for shifting. Are there any other ID marks I could check to ensure I order the correct part? I am situated in the caribbean so flying parts in is expensive...
I will contact the seller beforehand to verify if the solenoid works anyway.

I found a shifter assy with a working solenoid. Installed it and it worked, shifted in and out of P. Later tries did not work unfortunately. If you shift into P normally, the lever falls in position initially but sort of falls back a bit.
And the illuminated P on the dash goes out. Only when you push the lever a bit forward the illumination of the P sticks.
When shifting from D back to P through N and R you see that the position of the lever does not correspond with the printed scale on the base console. It is an bit too advanced position. I photographed the original assy in P position and it shows some space left in the sliding part before where the nut is. At the now installed assy there is no space left it seems to be all up in the front. Anyone knows if that is the issue and it simply needs adjusting?

Sounds like it's not adjusted properly.

And is that adjustment done by loosening this nut and sliding it back a bit and tightening it again? I can remove the cable end form the shifter by hand and putting it back as well without removing the fastener. More than enough play there. The manual says you should remove the fastener in order to do so.

You would just need to move it so that the actual position of the transmission lines up with the position of the shift lever.

It was adjusted by the automatic transmission specialist here on the island. I did not dare to touch it. Glad I did as two parts were missing. A rubber grommet and a clip. Now it shifts as never before. Thanks guys for helping me out.
In the this thread they removed the solenoid and soldered it.

Any info on how to remove the solenoid from the old shifter assy? Might be a nice holiday project and good to have a spare solenoid.
