I already have the plates for the CMC & a shop that’ll do it for me. Planning on spacers too, but I know very little about them, as far as what’s good & how thick I will need.

    Yeah.
Um, pretty sure this is not possible. Cam timing is not electronically controlled, it uses hydraulic pressure from the oil. There is nothing the computer can do to change cam timing. VVT-iE is a thing, but not on our engines.

Got a new battery last week and have only had a few short trips, so I hooked it up the the Battery Tender to top it off before the cold sets in for good.
Also notice a little rust on the battery hold down, hit it with a wire brush, a little OSPHO, and finally some touch up paint.

Out of curiosity, why did you switch from a Frontier to a Tacoma?

I drove my 2006 Frontier for over 18 years and put 250k miles on it. She was a good truck until everything started breaking all at once. My best friend has a 2019 TRD OR, so I learned quite a bit about Tacos and all the fun things you can do to them. I didn’t want to get another Fronty of the same generation and I’m not a fan of the 3rd gen body, so I got a Tacoma! Love it!

The fuel curve and spark timing are part of the tune. I have a manual transmission, I don’t have gear change issues, or any slip from an unlocked converter, so any change is noticeable. I didn’t notice any change at higher rpm’s, only lower, like less than 2500, so this is how more power is made at low rpm’s.

He could have been, maybe just ignorant to what is possible? It is surprising you are turning fewer rpm’s, but burning the same amount of fuel? Maybe the tune installed is not as efficient as it could be? Dyno charts can be misleading, fuel, ambient temp, engine temp, can have an impact on results. I asked about the specifics of the OTT results, and they were legit to my experience - the short drive home backed up the results as well.

Yes and no, yes they are as most are controlled from the oil pressure, however the Cam Timing Oil Control Solenoid Assembly (pop the hood and you will see 4, 2 per head on the front of your cylinder heads) is what controls the oil flow to the Variable Valve Timing Oil Control Valve that sends the oil one way to advance the cams, or the other way to retard the cams, the ECM is what controls the cam timing oil control solenoids, therefor able to be adjusted for better performance...
(I maybe a little off on the oil flow but that is the basics)

    Oil control solenoids

The variable valve timing shown above, allows the engine to operate in a Atkinson cycle, where the intake valves are open for a shorter duration, reducing the amount of fuel burned, improving mpg - this only happens when the ecu recognizes a low, constant load on the engine. But the same variable timing can move the torque curve. It’s not all ball bearings anymore!
