Were you able to reuse the existing GPS and 4g antenna?

How are you planning on connecting the head unit to the Internet?

I got around to installing mine last night and my ac controls don't work
I verified everything was connected properly. Correct adapter used. Checked all the connectors for damaged/recessed pins. Checked the correct protocol was enabled. All good.. I'm stumped. Sent them an email.. Awaiting their response.

Before I made it to this post, the first thought in my mind was how long it would work before it didn't.
    The AC controls, in particular...
There's just too much China going on there to give me the warm and cozies..

Same. I'd take a smaller unit in order to keep my OEM control buttons.

Do you have the digital AC controls? I also had an issue when I first installed it. Figured it was just because I had an early production unit. They were able to send me a fix within a couple days.

Is this your problem: “The ac controls are not working correctly. They were originally set to Tacoma low and the interface worked, but the heated seat controls were missing. I changed them to Tacoma hi and the heated seat controls turned on. But now the climate control display values are stuck. The temperature display is stuck on low. and the zone controls don’t change.”

The fix was a simple update.

    How to update.
    Download file
    1. Prepare a USB stick, make sure it is empty, copy the 'simplecanupdate.bin' file to the usb stick.
    2. Connect this usb stick to the USB port on our unit.then go to settings>>system>>upgrade>>plug box>>protocol update. Then the system will automatically upgrade and then restart”

Not sure if it will fix yours but I can send you the file.

I had the same issue with my recent install on the weekend. I contacted AuCar support via WhatsApp after 9PM EST which is 10AM China time. WhatsApp telephone number for AuCar support is +8615811876790. They asked for pictures on the SW version and determined I need a new can bus update applied. They sent me the binary "simplecanupdate.bin" about 52Kb in size.
    Instructions were to:
    1. format a USB drive
    2. copy the file to the root of the USB drive
    3. install USB into head unit usb
    4. navigate to settings>>system>>upgrade>>plug box>>protocol update - mine was not named protocol update, but the option was the bottom selection
    5. a progress bar will appear
    6. once complete, return to settings and select "save and reboot"
    7. After reboot all climate control functions worked perfectly

    Version after update:

    Damn guys you freakin ROCK!!!!

First time back on the forum after quite some time (was somewhat active in the past with my 1st gen shenanigans) and ya'll still impressing me with quick responses and stupid easy fixes. Tacomaworld community FTW!!

    @ib134866 thank you my guy!!
That can version pic you posted was the same as mine. I got the file loaded up and immediately installed it. SHE WORKS!!! Thank you so much mang I appreciate it.
I'm sure Aucar would have taken care of me just the same too. From what I'm seeing, their customer support seems great and follow up with people pretty quickly. But you came in clutch quicker! Ha. Just gotta finish buttoning her up then I can sit there for some hours playing around with all the options. Lol. Quite the upgrade.

Happy it fixed you up! I know I was a bit stressed that the climate controls were not working.

Bro.. I was out there last night for hours it seemed. Ha. I was going over every little thing. Unplugged it all, checked all connections, including looking at each one for damaged/recessed pins in each one, tried plugging the incorrect harness adapter in for the manual ac version (which made the dashboard glitch out with all kinds of errors btw , yeah dont do that for anyone thinking the same), scouring the net for similar issues... sigh.. yeah. And all it took was a simple file update and 5 minutes of time..

There is a blank in the kit for the push button start.

Ok so now that I've kinda been checking things out since install, and since I'm not getting much response from their Facebook group, I've discovered a couple more things that need attention. One being the options in 'car settings'. None of the options here are changeable.. One of their techs said it needs an update but haven't heard anything back on how to do that..
    20241211_165627.jpg

Another thing is the reverse parking sensor/radar beep is gone. I think that might be an rca that needs plugged in ( only plugged in the brown one) but not sure. I'll pull her out and see.

Finally installed Torque Pro App. Used this on my 1st gen but on my phone. One of the reasons I got this unit. (Still haven't found a fix for the car settings regardimg my previous post, still gotta contact them).

I have noticed that the car options are not working, but I had all the options set prior to the install of this head unit. The option setting were not changed after installation, just that the options could not be set by this head unit - yet.

The backup/radar sound does work for me, I did not make any changes to head unit to enable it and I only have the camera plugged into a RCA connector on the head unit.

Let me know if you hear anything from AuCar regarding a update. I asked them about enabling this "voice" button on the left hand side of the steering wheel to initiate a "OK Google" prompt. They replied, that it is not implemented yet.

Same for me on the settings. And my dumbass didn't realize that the parking sensor button was deactivated after I had disconnected battery. Ha. So that works.
And I did talk to them last night and got an update for the car settings. However there was a couple glitches with a couple of the settings. The interior lights option(works but glitched as showing "off" and doesn't change on screen, but does actually change the setting when hitting arrows) and the beep/feedback tone on lock/unlock no longer works. He sent me another update for the beep feature but am at work rn. Will install when I get home. And can follow up with you guys on that and send the updates your way.

These units are a lot of fun, but glitches and questionable reliability will be a permanent part of ownership, at least for the time being.
If you like tinkering and don't mind shelling out for a new one when yours shits the bed, then they are a blast.
They're more than a minute or two away from prime time, though.

I finally installed mine last night. If you have ever built a computer this will be pretty easy. I suggest watching the install video by Jesse Rizzo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70Qs-oiV9ic

There are a few differences with the JBL headunit, but between the instructions and the video you can figure it out.

I also suggest getting s low cost prepaid wireless sim so the tablet has its own internet connection, this will avoid the need for carplay and the slow transfer rate of bluetooth.
