What additional work would you recommend to fit TRD Rock Warrior wheels with 285/70/r17 tires? With their spacing, do you have any clearance issues?

Is a CMC and knocking over the seam enough? Do you need to cut the fender or wheel wells, or any other additional work?

    I have a 2019 3rd gen with a 2” lift (Fox 2.5/2.0s, Deaver U402). Heres the CMC video I was looking at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=277&v=0v2h6pBzIrs&embeds_referring_euri=https://www.chaosfab.com/&source_ve_path=Mjg2NjY

What is the offset? Most Toyota wheels need a spacer to get them close to 0 offset in order to don285s without rubbing the UCA. An aftermarket UCA can help a little with that but probably not eliminate it without a spacer.

These have a 50mm offset, on other tires I though a positive offset helped with fit by decreasing the scrub radius? For these is it the overall width that is too much?

The width of the 285s is definitely too much. The positive offset decreases rubbing on the cab mount when you turn but moves the tires closer to the UCAs. Its all about balance. Most people seem to recommend zero offset with 285s for minimal rubbing although some trimming and a CMC are still usually recommended.

If you just want bigger diameter 255s have far fewer clearance issues.

Which size 255 would you reccomend? My friend has some with 285s and is switching wheels so I was thinking of running these until the tires wear out but perhaps it’s more pain then it is worth.

If I stuck with 285s would you run spacers like these, or something else? It looks like you need different studs for these wheels than stock. https://www.spidertrax.com/whs007?sc=2&category=9982

The Tundra RW 5 Hole 17"x8" wheels have 50mm offset.

The 6 hole 17"x 7.5" versions for the T4R, Tacma, Fj have 6mm offset.

Thats a big difference from what I thought! Just realized his tires are 5-lug not 6 so they won't work for me.
I read your thread on tire sizing and appreciate your thoughtful weight analysis. How is the width? Are they still entirely within the wheel wells?

How do you like the 255/75/r17 (e.g., Michelin - Defender LTX M/S) like you're running?

What are your goals? On road or offroad? Just for looks or offroad abilities? If offroad what kind of terrain? Purely onroad I definitely wouldn't go with 33in 285s, adds a lot of stress to the vehicle, reduces gas mileage and requires a good amount of trimming and pounding and possibly a CMC. 255s seem a lot easier to make work and put less stress on the system but going a little smaller to 32s is even easier.

Offroad the 285s do give maximum floatation and traction on things like deep sand although the 255s cut through shallow mud and sand to solid ground better. Pick your poison.

Generally, my adventures are pretty reasonable off-roading. My wife and I like heading out to different hiking and climbing spots. Anza Borneo, valley of the moon, snow camping, etc.

Valley of the moon is the most extreme that we are getting.

It looks like 255/75/R17 are 32” tires?
