All the info you could want on AGM charging and whether it's necessary or not.

Fwiw, if/when my 10 year and 1 month old Die Hard Platinum dies, I'll go w/ Duracell which are East Penn Mfg. batteries. I put one in the porsche a year or so ago and more recently, 1 main and 1 aux in the GF's Jeep.

I've never run a voltage booster and never plugged it in to a charger.

Part of the answer is in the link you posted. The recommended charging voltage for that battery is 14.4V ~ 15.0V. Now, check your alternator’s voltage output at about 1500 rpm at operating temps to complete answering your question.

I have this battery brand for my 2nd battery in my dual battery setup. I have the H6/48 battery. Out of the box, the CCA was low, 675 of 760 CCAs. To their credit, the vendor contacted me after posting a 3-star review on Amazon. They offered to replace the battery. I declined because I want to see if the CCAs will remain the same or get worse. The battery has a 3-year warranty; mine is 9 months old and holding steady. I have the HKB ‘voltage booster’ which keeps my voltage in the 14.5 range.

Lead cell battery unless you plan to also do the alternator voltage booster the same time as the AGM battery.

I changed to an AGM battery a few years ago and did the "Cheap, easy, legit way to boost your charging voltage" posted by MR5X5 above. I replaced the fuse with a Littelfuse 2400113 diode. I didn't do any of the more elaborate stuff to keep fuse protection.

I've had no problems. It's just worked.

The owner of the Batteries Plus store where I bought the AGM battery said it didn't need any type of voltage boost, that it would be just fine as a drop-in replacement for the regular battery. I don't know whether to trust him or not.

Raising the system operating voltage with the diode should have shortened the life of all the incandescent bulbs in my truck. The rule of thumb is that a 5% increase in voltage should reduce the bulb lives by 50%. I've burned out one DRL/turn bulb since I did the mod. But I don't drive very much and not much of that time is at night.

I did a 24 w/ an sdhq bracket. Initially did the ford diode mod. Then got the battery booster pro when it was on sale. The diode used to charge 14.4-14.8. The booster kit starts about 14, then increases to about 14.8 before settling again around 14. So it seems to pull upon start, top off and or high charge, then settle. I picked the 24 as that group was lighter Than the factory group by a fair amount and had more CCW then what i needed. No issues so far and I spend a lot of time on the road, in accessory mode as well.

I bought my truck used with a small walmart battery. It died within the warranty period so I replaced it for free. It died again.

Went to Toyota dealer in a mountainous region. Asked for a battery. They gave me a bigger one. They said that is what they spec in that area to handle it better. Not every area does this. It has a PN and can be purchased.
Not into a tiny weak battery.
I believe it's lead acid. More CCA, etc.

    Replaced worn alternator later.

Been running it since. Have had some additional electrical consumers on the truck, but nothing crazy.

I'm not sure the point of changing it. Had it for years and it works.

Any vehicle I've seen with AGM tends to be a luxury vehicle where the battery is kept insulated. ie mounted under a seat. In the trunk. etc and not underhood compartment.

Went to a North Star AGM in my truck about 5 years ago. No mods to my charging output. Once I year or so if I remember I put a trickle charger on it that will do AGM, so far no issues whatsoever. While our alternator may not fully charge it, there are several like myself that went AGM with no additional mods and are amazingly enough, still alive. I went sealed as with a lot of off roading I was constantly getting acid spilled all over, especially with the COSTCO Interstate I had in there for a while.
