Are you expecting the aluminum one to fail? Your kids will be tossing your composite "spare in a dumpster when you go Tango Uniform.

The aluminum center stand pipe needs to be the same length as the composite.

I did not remove the center stand pipe as some had suggested to keep the same height.

Car Care Nut suggests getting rid of the housing if you remove the center stand pipe.

The spring tension was identical when I tested/compressed the center stand pipe.

The A1 filter is the one installed...goto Post# 77 here for visual aid.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/aluminum-oil-filter-housing-downsides.765682/page-4

I had the paper filters reversed by their box in this photo but you can see the A1 is for the taller housing unit

Not anticipating any issues with the aluminum housing.

I just did not want to throw away the composite housing when I can keep it in the storage under the back seat.

My adult daughters don't think much of my truck...lol!

But I suppose they would go Tango Uniform! lol

Stock with a camper shell for now.
Now after watching that I’m concerned because I bought a metal filter housing off of a link in this forum and now I’m concerned if it wasn’t correct for the filter for it. How can you tell if it is the correct housing for the Tacoma filter ? I would like to assume it is with the correct stem in the center since I found it on here from multiple members.

I was thinking getting Alum but I will stick with plastic. In case something does break, its better to break that plastic housing rather than treads that hold it.

I was skeptical/trepidatious about the whole process and read/watched reviews before I went forward with my swap.

Taking those photos and evaluating spring compression/tension and center stand pipe length helped me determine to make the move.

I'm just about due another oil change soon so I can take more photos of the filter change with the aluminum housing removal.

This will be the second time removing the aluminum which I noticed was easier to remove after hand-tightening the housing.

I've had no leaks or any issues with my truck and I'm confident all is functioning as normal with my engine.

I did have the Dealership complete a tire rotation/alignment and system check after my last oil change...all was good.

I have a 4 ft breaker bar. Even you could overtighten with that.

I would still put the Housing Units side-by-side to make sure the Center Stand Pipe is about the same length.

Once you see the similarities, it can calm your nerves like it did mine.

I had a heck of a time convincing myself it was OK.

Next oil change I definitely will and I think when I first purchased it I did compare them but it’s always worth a second look. Thank you.

    I wasn't that thorough! lol

But I did eye-ball that there were holes in the tube.

    Good looking out, Tux!

Oh, I've been running the aluminum for +6 months...it's being tested right now in this cold weather we're having here in Delaware:

Current Temps: 9F Feels like 5F

Remote Starts have been a routine during the workweek...like today!

I measured the center pipe with the micrometer once. Posted results on TW. They are the same, with 1/100 of an inch. Manufacturing tolerances.

    60.28mm vs 60.22mm Same.

Filter is 67.06mm. Almost 7mm longer than the central pipe. Measured end to end, including the glue on the ends, since glue thickness affects how it sits in the housing.
