Homemade skid plates?

Ooo looks great! But 12g is pretty thin, even 10g is only 1/8 inch. Personally I use 3/16” steel or 1/4” aluminum. But hey all depends on what’s it’s purpose is. Just be carful if you wheel it.

 

1000% agree. I added an extra brace and I def dont plan on setting the truck on it in a wreckless way. But a 10g version is next.

Can anyone think of a reason why this couldn't be done in stainless? We have tons of scrap at work and may be able to get some of the laser programmers to add this into some of their cuts with large leftovers.

 

Shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure you have good ventilation when welding. Stainless isn't good on the lungs.....

 

The .dwg file I found that was listed as

Doesn't appear to have this extra cut out, or am I missing something (viewing with DWG TrueView, shows up a little funky though.)

They have sheets of 1/8th cold rolled left over from a job that called it out specifically (99% of the time our stuff is made out of stainless) so I can have I can make it out of that, which honestly should be more than adequate for me, not looking to rock crawl, just looking to remove the sport skirt and something functionally similar to the OEM, probably most dangerous I will ever come across is snow piled up on the sides of the main roads when I am coming off the unplowed side roads (if we get any snow... been rather light the last year or two). Also want to do it just for the excuse of making one myself.

 

A good lightweight skid will also protect the drain pan and allow you to get a nice fumoto valve for no-mess oil changes.

EDIT: Not sure what the bump is for on 3rd gens. But google images is also showing some 3rd gen skids without the bump?
When I bought my skids for my gen 2 it seemed like I'd need an exhaust reroute, but the skids fit without it so
I assume it's the same thing maybe? Some 3rd gen skids have a door where that bump is instead, so really not sure on that one. You could always just cut out a square and then leave it open if it doesn't fit.

 

For anyone who has cut this file, and made a diff bump-out, do you have dimensions for where you placed it?
