    FWIW my 98 wouldn't throw any codes when I swapped a new engine in and had the O2 sensors hanging out in space before installing the new exhaust while running the engine for quite some time working on this and that on it for weeks.

    IIRC having the gear selector getting stuck between gears was a no crank no start, but I am not 100% on that.

    The point I wanted to make was verify the problem before buying parts or testing before getting tunnel vision and I think you're saying the same thing, too.
