Working having a friend pick these up for me.

4x Innovations. Same as what's on the Taco. They have done very well for me.

My plan is to build the transfer case skid myself. I'll build it out of 1/4. All I see available is 3/16 from shops.

Still want to build one of those. But this would be more practice.

Speaking of practice. I'm considering doing a roll cage for this one. I'd actually consider doing a roll cage for the Tacoma to, if it went well in the 4 Runner.

I bought the bender and notcher for a reason.

    More on the roll cage...

I'm considering the 4x Innovations roll cage
    https://www.4xinnovations.com/96-02-4-Runner-Internal-Roll-Cage_p_142.html

Here's my thoughts. I get that I have a bender and I could (theoretically) build one from scratch. But I've never built a cage before. I'm wondering if doing their cage would give me some experience in doing one, and I could use my bender to add some of the things I'd want to add, to get it closer to a "sanctioned" cage. (Like dash bar and additional triangled supports).

    Am I over thinking it?

I'm excited for the build! I'm happy to help wrench or weld, just let me know when. It'll be fun to have Jen out driving at KOH next year.

If you see any parts in the Sacramento area you need picked up just shoot me a text

I was really looking forward to KOH this year. Was really f'n bummed we couldn't get the truck together in time.

But, parts are in, now I just have to put them on the truck.

Parts already showing up. Buddy picked up some skid plates for me and brought them to work.

4x Innovations. The same as what I have on the Taco, so I know they do what I need them to do

If you think you can make it fit you can have the snorkel.

Fuck it... maybe I should just buy Jen a rig.

Or... you think they'd trade straight across for a mint/clapped out 1996 4 Runner?

So... I called the Steel Supplier I normally deal with. 1.75x.120 wall DOM is, currently, $4.65 a foot. That is WAAAAY cheaper than last time I bought it. I need to make a decision. I'll probably buy the 3 twenty foot sticks they have on Friday, before the price shoots up (possible looming tariffs). Which will end up having me fabricate the roll cage from scratch. At $4.65 a foot I could get all the material needed for the cage for about 1.75x the cost of JUST SHIPPING on the kit.

Ok... good thing I took a closer look at the regulations.

Not that this rig is being built for racing, but a 3rd Gen 4 runner would require 2 inch .120 wall dom for the roll cage.
    • The curb weight of a 1996 Toyota 4Runner V6 4x4 SR5 with a 105.3 in wheelbase is 3,820–3,845 lbs.

SCORE, ULTRA4, etc, etc require 2 inch .120 wall DOM for roll cages in vehicles that are 4100+ lbs sitting at the starting line, minus driver, minus fuel.

I'm not saying this is being built as a race truck. But I have been known to see shiny objects and get off track. lol
I figure, if I'm building a cage, I might as well do a cage that could be sanctioned.
