255 80 r17

Any one running these size tires? as BFG makes them and they are basically 33''s

 

I have the 255/85/16. They are the same OD. They haven't effected my hiway gas milage. I still get 19-20mpg. Mostly because of less resistance compared to 285s. And I'm using stock rims.

 

How they run in Colorado's snow?

 

Don't know. Its ben very dry here in he springs. I drove up to Winter park once on the 70. There was almost no snow on the road (from 70 to winter park). For the little bit of snow they did fine. Back end wanted to slide out some, but still very controlled. I had 3 60lb bags in the back, but they slide to the front of the bed. This was the first time driving in snow and Have no other anything to compare to.

 

do you have a 3 inch lift and if so any rubbing, trimming or issues?

 

I'm at a little less than 2" for lift. When I fist got them they kissed the frame at full lock to the right, then I got new UCAs and an alignment and it hasn't touched ever since. I haven't had to trim any thing due to rubbing.

I\m thinking a 3 inch OME 885(i have a DCLB) with the 255/80/R17 do you think I would need UCA's as well?

 

UCAs help with alignment after lifting. Some say their alignment is in spec (minus caster) but most (like me) need UCAs to get the camber and caster back to spec (caster doesn't effect, shops sacrifice caster for camber). After I installed my Bult Right UCAs and did an alignment I notice a much smother ride. The little bumps were gone and its much nicer to drive on and off road. I definitely recommend them. The big brands are Camberg, Light Racing, Icon, Total Chaos. Some others are Downsouth Motorsport's (he is a vender on here) brand of UCAs and Built Right. I have the built rights and love them.

Hell yeah it's been dry. I'm up in Woodland Park.

I'm running 265s (BFG ATs). I've run 285s, but in Colorado's super dry snow, nothing, no matter how wide, floats for very long. So I've been looking for a good compromise between flotation and bite. I found the 285 to be too squirmy and loose for my tastes. The 265s have been better. I ran 245s on my old 4Runner and they were great for the vehicle, but that truck was a good 1000 pounds lighter. So now I'm looking for 1st hand reports on the 255s. I have a feeling they'd do great in Colorado snows. I love the look too.

 

Maybe this next winter it will snow more, then I can actualy test them. The on trail I was they did weel except for the steep icy down hill.
