it shouldn't make any difference in light output if i paint the inside of the o.e.m. headlight housing before installing the retro fit kit should it??

Shouldnt make a difference in light output. As far as glare, I doubt it since the light would have to come out the projector, bounce off the inside of the lens, then back into the reflector bowl, then back out through the lens.

When I did my TSX retrofit on my Prelude, I left the housing chrome so it looks stock. Less likely to be noticed by police/vehicle inspectors since no vehicle (that i know of) comes stock with colored headlight housings.

ok sounds good. when i get a few bucks laying around im gonna pick up some replacement housings and see if i can do the retrofit so i will have a cleaner light output and stop blinding people with my hids. like many others have said i have angled the beam down a good bit but still am getting dirty light all over the place.

This looks great man! ive been wrestling with the decision to retrofit or buy the knock off bulb deals but your post makes me think I need to not be cheap and go with some retrofits. out of curiosity how much did you spend for the whole project? also I would love to see the cop that would mess with you over your lights, might just be where I live but ive driven with my halogen off road lights on and forgot to turn them off and they didnt mess with me at all.

how did you get the lens separate from the housing and what did you use to get them back together?

so im assuming that the first gens are probably more of a pain in the ass to pull apart cause the stuff has sat there for a longer period of time.

Any changes in luminosity from the reflector bowl would be negligible.

thats why you only do this with a PROJECTOR RETRO-FIT thus deeming the reflector bowl useless

nice job! just wondering, how do you adjust the cut off point? do you cut the hole in the lense, mount the projector, put the head lights in the truck then adjust the projector beam with an adjustment screw or something? im having a little trouble understanding how you aim the light. i thought once you mount the projector then everything is final. am i wrong?

I'm reviving this thread because I wanna know what you used to cut the housings for the FXRs and how big of a hole you made. I've heard 2-3" or in between. Also what did you use on the back to hold it all together? It almost looks like that plumbers epoxy. And what shroud is that?

maybe the OP will chime in at some point...

But from the first post, he mentions hating JB weld, so I'd start there ;)

As well, if you're having trouble figuring the hole size, you can make your own hole gauge and slide it over the housing to see where you'd like the light to be positioned.

Just cut a circle in a piece of paper and slip it over the projector to get the depth that you want.

Bear in mind, to recessed and you'll cut off the spill from the projectors with the sides of your housings.

and IMO, they look closest to the "Gatling Gun" offered at TRS...

    Nothing really exactly the same

I think the shroud is the apollo 2.0 or something, but I haven't seen anyone else post a really good first gen writeup of the FXR. I would love to know what type of putty epoxy that is, the JB weld is gonna be harder to work with when I have to use a lot of it.

you can always used SteelStik (also by JB)

I've tacked things together using the stuff and then gone back after its dried with a full bead of the stuff; think of tack welding.

Much less stuff getting everywhere and there's no mixing or BS like that, just cut and knead.

And I think the difference in light in "stock halogen vs. Morimoto" (or similar) vs. "Morimoto vs. FXR" is going to be negligible to the standard DIYer. Only light buffs could tell the difference, and they're the ones who don't need a write up ;)

I'd love to do a write-up but broke college student here working 7 days a week.
