    Mileage that problem/failure happened: 111,000

What actually happened: 2018 SR5 - engine was knocking/tapping for ~2,000 miles before it went in to limp mode while driving. Misfire codes as well as P11EC were prevalent. Dealer identified the vacuum pump as the cause of the tapping/knocking and replaced it. The noise was persistent after vacuum pump replacement yet the dealer said everything was normal. The truck sprung two significant oil leaks - one at the fuel pump gasket and one at the back of the engine by the firewall. The truck also started burning oil. Between the leak and the burn, the engine was losing about 0.75 quarts every 500 miles. I took the truck to another shop where they found compression was low and the engine was out of tolerance on a leak down test. Metal shavings were found in the oil filter and filter housing. Replacement engine was mostly covered under third party extended warranty. Likely cause of failure was related to valve issues but not confirmed.

Vehicle usage (towing/off-roading/pavement pounder): truck was purchased 6 months ago, history unknown

    Vehicle modifications (tune/geared/tires): N/A

What did knocking/tapping sounded like? If you have any recordings of it.

There is this always " is it the bad knock or normal?" question with Tacomas, and it seems like no one knows which is bad and which is normal.
