Yeah. Or they buy a Shark or Dyson that cleans better than a Kirby and costs less than half as much.

Once Dyson figured out how to get no loss of suction without using water, Rainbow became obsolete, IMO. And, others have copied the technology, including Shark, which is what I have.

Probably not. But, this reminds of a nice girl I hung out with back in the '90's.

Definitely not a snorkel with a pre-cleaner. That wouldn't even look good on a ute.

I was wondering if the starter was user serviceable at all. I also didn't want to take the time to pull it out only to find out no.

Oh, I'm no expert. I sold Rainbows briefly in the early 2000's while I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. After selling cars, working at an oil change/tire shop, selling Rainbows, selling junk, and working at a factory, I ended up going back to electrical work.

    If there's a better way, I didn't find it.
( removing the exhaust or the 4wd driveshaft might've made it easier but extra steps.)

I had to separate the motor from the solenoid in order to get it out.
The motor came out through the UCA opening and the solenoid/base came out between the LCA.

Dyson has some real engineering in their designs. People that understand how to maximize airflow. Unfortunately they are also "value" engineered to be as cheap to make as possible. The new ones are garbage. Last one I bought the plastic was so flimsy the handle was all wibbly wobbly with any kind of torque. I sent it back right away. That's just bad design. Where the human meets the tool is important to get right IMO.

For anyone else interested I found this write up.
Recommends undoing the steering yoke for clearance to get it out.

Started this yesterday, videos make it look simple enough. I've taken all the measurements on brackets and wood probably 10x...but I didn't account for the transmission tunnel.:rofl: Gotta look around for a hackzall.

I originally wanted to get a Dyson when I moved to Sullivan. But, the Shark was way more affordable, and I was spending a lot of money at the time. After using my brother's Dyson at my Dad's house, I wasn't impressed with how awkward it was. The Shark is holding up well, so far.

I bought our Dyson maybe 6 years ago?
Amz had a killer Black Friday deal but they sold out quick. Farm and Fleet also had a not as good sale.
Figured, I was too late but drove up there anyway. They had 1 left.

I grabbed it and was able to get them to price match amz sale.
*I might not have mentioned amz was sold out and theirs was the only one left in town. :notsure:

Edit: I like it but the handhose sucks. *no pun intended.
Can't pull it out very far before it starts pulling the entire vacuum with it.

What is your end goal on the platform?

I just got done building one for myself, here is the link -

Also if you want some different ideas here is a thread I used for my inspiration -

Mine will be permanent since I didn't need the seats.. Fridge slider on the passenger side. Base is attached to the OEM "tilt" brackets allowing access to the compartments underneath. Haven't made up my mind about removing the back pieces or not. Have a Colorado trip coming up and want to see how this does before I buy the carpet.

Just so you know it gets quite loud with the rear cubbies removed, I have 2 layers of sound deadening behind my molle panel to keep it about the same noise level as stock.

Are you buying a premade fridge slide or building your own?

Bought a premade from Iron Man 4x4. Good reviews, slide tray can be removed when not in use (avoid no load rattling), and they have/had a 25% off sale going on. Ultimately that was the deciding factor against other known brands. Also, I did read about and experienced first hand, the cabin noise just from the seats being removed. I plan on adding sound deadening underneath the platform once I'm happy with it.
