    Hey guys,

I’m currently looking at a Tacoma 4cyl RWD with 23k miles. I was wondering what did these sell at when they were first out? What was the msrp? The dealership has it listed at $24000.

Is that a good deal? It’s the very basic model with the black bumper.

You don't even tell us what year model it is.........

Edmunds.com may include original and current pricing. Worth a look.

Details matter. Either its a utility package (no rear seats) or it isnt. Should be an access cab if it is.

I would have liked that for mine, but a lot of people turn their noses up at 'pool boy trucks'. I don't care, mine does all I need. Actually more than I need.

Great motor in those trucks too.

Remember the dealer has it priced to overpay for someone's raggedy trade in and make them feel good.

Again, Edmunds and KBB are good places to look. Target private party pricing as your high end, not retail.

All 4 cylinders are SR trim level but within that there's different option packs that make it not so basic. I have a TSS Offroad pack which is the gulf states toyota upgrade pack, electric tailgate lock, black exhaust tip, running boards, body color bumpers, upgraded wheels(subjective) and Nitto grapplers. I found the paperwork on the original lease to the first owner, they paid like $38k for this thing. LOL.....Mine had 30000 miles on it I paid 29 OTD w/ gold certified preowned, maint pack and new tires but they also gave me way more than my trade was worth so numbers game i suppose.
I'd be all over one for 23k.
I hate the seats, i can't get comfortable but I've figured out how to average over 25mpg on my 60 mile commute so there's that. I was getting 14mpg from the 2500 i traded in on it.

Does it matter that it’s gold certified ?

Not so much to me. Why? Because it's a late model, low mile vehicle. They've looked it over, maybe done some basic service or put some tires on it, cleaned it up.

The gold cert is attractive to buyers. But the dealer is rolling the dice that nothing is going to happen, so they collect premium money for the 'certification', and the vehicle behaves just as it would have had you bought from an individual.

Is it 'nice'? Yes. Have I bought certified? Yes. Not because it was. It was the vehicle I wanted and it happened to be certified. And 6 years and 40k later never darkened their doors again.

Of course I'm not saying don't buy it. But don't let it artificially jack the price. Use the sources I suggested and figure out reasonable pricing.

BUT. If it's what you want, and you are a long time keeper of vehicles, and it's in your budget, overpaying a bit is not the end of the world. Especially for a model that actually is more niche that some of the fancy pants models.

    Good luck.

If the truck is nice , this is a very good price . I would be all over it . That drivetrain by the way is literally bullet proof
