Hey guys what’re your thoughts on the OTT Tune? Is it worth it on the 2nd gen and what does it do differently?

(I've had an OTT tune, mild variation, on my 2014 2nd gen 4.0L 6spd manual for ~8K miles and am happy with it. Knowing what I know now after 8K miles, yes, the cost is worth it to me. Is it the same as getting a supercharger? No. Is it a mild-but-noticeable performance improvement, mainly in low-end torque? Yes.)

Only you can decide if it's worth it to you.
My experience on my 14 TRD OR Manual is improved throttle response, slightly better fuel economy, less rev-hang, and slightly more power.
They can do more for auto trucks since they can adjust shift points and such.

I know that they have done extensive testing of their tunes to ensure they are staying within the safe operating parameters and not doing damage and I believe they are the only ones that have 50 state emissions certification.

I can't speak for the other OTT tuners but @JustDSM has always been very helpful and answered any questions I've had, we even went through a couple iterations of tune to get things right but I bought my own tuner so I could flash it myself.

There is no separate TCM on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gens (not sure about 4th gens), everything with the engine and transmission is handled by the ECM and thus the calibration loaded in the ECM.

Gotcha. So i guess that would probably need to be sent in then.
The installer locally to me only mentioned the mild, medium, spicy “tunes”. And kept going back and forth on whether he could adjust the tune for tire size, gear ratio, shift points ect.

Depends on how you do it, I bought my own tuner and credits so I could load them myself and change tunes whenever I wish. All I had to do was send Justin my stock tune file and he sent me several versions of their custom tune with different throttle maps, we also went back and forth with a couple experimental tweaks.

Otherwise yea your options are take the truck to a tuner or send your ECM to them and have them bench flash it and send it back.
I think they were also working on possibly selling a tuner that was pre-loaded with their tunes but I don't know if that ever became a thing or not.

    No problem.
Do note that if you plan on flashing tunes yourself it's best practice to have a clean battery maintainer on it during the flash to minimize the chance of bricking the ECM due to low battery voltage.
