If OVTune developed a turbo option, I'd be interested in learning more, but I'm not holding my breath on that. 3rd Gen Tacomas is where the business is at.

Underrated comment. You need to be pumping out 300+hp before you have to worry about the factory airbox and filter restricting air flow. The only reason to use a "cold air" intake on any car is because racecar go vrooom.

I realize this is an old thread, but I came upon it while doing some research about putting a turbo on my 4 banger tacoma. This kit is now almost $6k. At that price point, I think I would be better just buying another truck with a bigger engine. I can take that $6k plus whatever my taco is worth for trade-in and probably get into something decent with a V6. But figured I would ask, does anyone know of a cheaper turbo kit?

LC Engineering recently emailed that as they were about to release their proof tested Magnuson supercharger kit, Magnuson released a new design that LCE is testing for their new 2TR-FE package. Stand by... (I keep checking their site as I started with a 22R 5MT.)

Welp, my brother ended up giving me his old Silverado after getting himself a newer one. It needs a few things but the body is relatively rust free and the drivetrain is still very strong and the V8 will haul or pull anything I throw at. The gas mileage is not much worse than my 4 cylinder taco. I just could not justify spending $5k or $6k for a supercharger on my Tacoma. So once I get my Silverado fixed up, I'll most likely be listing my Taco for sale if anyone might be interested. Pic of the Silverado below.

What kind of MPG are you getting in that 14 4x4? I have read that the 4x4 2.7Ls are very heavy. Yea, you just need to be content with a 2.7L. . . It's weak and it'll stay weak. . .which is why I also have a 4.0L V6 POWERHOUSE 4Runner to compliment it.

GMT400s are awesome.. . My dream would be a 1998 C1500 GMC extra cab 2WD leather, haha. Awesome load height.

I was getting 15 city and 19 highway in the 4 banger, probably worse than if it had the 4.0. The Chevy will probably be a little worse on gas, but it is what it is, at least it was free!

Yikes! . . .for scientific purposes my 14 DCSB 2.7L auto with running boards and load range E all terrains averages 20 all day on my daily drive / commute. I do about 5% per tank on the highway and the rest is low speed 40 MPH and lower streets.. I'm waiting for an opportunity to do a long highway run and see what I get but I suspect 24-25 is doable. But my my 07 Runner V6 4WD gets 14-15 in the exact same conditions and route so I am satisfied. The 4.0L getting better MPG is a fanboy myth.

    Good luck with the GMT400!
